Hi guys.
Once again I would like some advice please. Can someone advise me how much exercise a 12wk old Lab needs. We've got open fields at the back of us & was wondering if it is ok to take him over there? I know I'm not to take him miles to start off with but how long would be ok? Or should I give the fields a miss and just get him used to being out and about? Also when do you let them off the lead? I'm pretty lucky as the walk I'm going to take him on you hardly come across another sole, but would like to be prepared just incase. He does come when called, but it's only been out in the garden, in the big wide world it will probably be a different story. :D
Thanks for any advice
Fluffy.

Hi,
It is a good idea to stick with the '5-minute rule' when exercising puppies: walks of 5 minutes for every month of their age. So a three-month puppy would be out for about 15 minutes at a time. In your situation I would take the pup over to the field for 15 minutes play, off lead, once a day (if you keep walking about he'll want to stick with you so you have lots of opportunity to practice recall!), but I would also take him out another couple of times for lead training and socialising. He needs to see and become blase about anything and everything you can think of - livestock, other dogs, children, cars, bicycles, men with beards, women with hats, wheelchairs, lorries, umbrellas, buses .... anything he might meet in his life.
:)
