im very passionate about animal testing, as im sure we all are.
my question why do they almost always use beagle dogs??

i cant believe that in every 12 seconds an animal die's in an experiment lab - UK
and 1 second in the USA. thats just shocking!

Can I ask where you got these statistics from?

Beagles are used for animal experimentation because they are calm in "pack" situations, and they are calm and easily managed amongst other things.

Hi Tohme,i read your post with great interest,i found a Beagle pup at Battersea ,he has been there for at least the last 4 weeks i have been visiting ,when i asked about rescueing him they were very negative saying they would only let him go to owners experienced with this breed, also saying they were not good in the home (,being pack animals !!) this pup is only 4 months old (approx)they never came up with one posative point about the breed at all , he has had "reserved" on his kennel & then had it removed at least three times ,he is so tiny ,and looks so sad and lonely ,what do you think the problems would be ?Bye Sue & Lola xx

Beagles are very cute dogs but not easy pets!  Even a lady who is a very accomplished trainer and competes in Working Trials, Obedience and agility had one of hers go AWOL at an agility show a few weeks ago for 24 hours!

They were bred to live and work in packs, like foxhounds, and are basically a nose on legs :D It may also be that this particular beagle is an ex lab dog in which case he would be even more difficult to live with.

Hi Tohme,i agree i did think he could possibly be ex lab or  puppy farm ,i was surprised and sad to see just how many pedigree pups are in rescue ,i was told that most would be passed on to breed rescue ,i just wondered why this little guy was still there ,it can't be helping him at all ,he is so small he can't even see out of the bars of his kennel!....oooh, Bye Sue Lola xx

I grew up with a beagle - my aunt's dog. He was an excellent house dog, very good with us children. He was a total softy, very good with people. The only problem was that he had little recall and would try and escape from the house or garden at any opportunity :) The fencing of their very large garden had to be reinforced and dug down to prevent tunneling. He always came back if he escaped - but had a couple of near misses with traffic. My sister and I did let him off once in a forest and he escaped onto a neighbouring golf course and didn't come back for half an hour - we just sat and waited for him by the fence :)
