Hi All

I have 4 springers. Mum Dad and 2 pups.. the male pup now 7 months old has taken to barking continuosly whenever he is let out in the evenings.. We live on 5 acres of farmland and they have free run of the land all day long so they get plenty of excercise... Then they come in in the evenings and snuggle up by the fire, But whenever i let them out for a wee in the evening he just stands and barks into the darkness... Any ideas?????? Im stumped

Hi Briony. :)

I don't know if this helps but Bess used to bark at me for attention when I was talking to people on our walks and as she already knew the command to bark ("say woof!" :D ) I'd get her barking then say "quiet" and she's improved a lot.

I found this for you, haven't looked at it all but there seems to be a lot of info. :)

Hi Kath

Thanks i will have a read through as soon as i get the time, But i am completly baffled by this, none of the others bark infact they look at timmy as if they think hes crazy.. And i cant think of any reason for the barking whatso ever.. He doesnt want attention as he has usually asked to go out.. He doesnt want to come back in as the door is always left open??? It is just baffling and it is not like he is just warning anyone that might be about as if left he will just bark and bark for hours non stop!!!!!

Strange!!!!

I have a rescue springer which we got at nearly six months. He did it but has recently stopped we never managed to stop him and ended up waiting and watching him the whole time he was in the garden. If we were there he didn't bark, if we shut the door and went inside he barked. He is two years old on 22nd of March. I put it down to his bad start in life, but now I am wondering if it is a "Springer thing"?

Does he only do this in the dark?  Does he do this both if he is let out alone AND with the others?
