We thought my oldie Lab Min had this but when she was sedated last week for her claw clipping the vet had a look, both her vocal cords are paralysed and not her larynx. She also had tonsilitis. She has been put on antibiotics and steroids and is doing very well.
The symptoms for a paralysed larynx are a cough but also a very raspy sound coming from the dog . It is not dangerous and can be treated with surgery but it also depends on how old the dog is to whether surgery is the best option to go for. It is not harming the dog so often it is in some cases best to leave it.
