I am looking to breed my 2 1/2 year old bitch.
I live in Brackley, northants, near Silverstone. Can anyone put me in contact with a suitable stud in my area?
She is currently in season and would be looking to breed say within the next week.
regards
Mrs Bryce

You will need to
Register with us and let us know what breed ;) Visitors are only allowed to make one post :)
Also, you have left it very late....usually breeders have a stud dog sorted out a long time before their bitch comes into season :)

Anne here.
I have now registered (thanks for that)
I have a Lhasa Apso, I know that I left it late, she caught us out. Her last season was about 10 - 11 months ago (this is her 3rd season).
I just did not know where too look for a stud...I have been looking on the Net for a few months now. By chance I came across this site.

I would say you've left it too late to mate her this season. Has she had all the breed-relevant health checks? If you got her from a reputable breeder you should contact her to discuss which stud lines would complement her best. It's not as easy as just picking any old male - get the wrong combination of bloodlines and you could have a disaster! :(

I have her pedigree papers including the details of parents, grandparents, great gradparents etc.
Will this help get the right stud lines!

It will help to find someone who knows the breed. Presumably you want the best for your girl and the owners of the best stud dogs will not let their dogs be mated just anywhere. Really, you need to get your bitch assessed by someone knowledgeable. They should be brutally honest about her faults, so you have to be prepared for the facts and you should spend the time up to her next season not only searching for the right dog but learning as much as you can about the breed and breeding in general. It is not easy and very hard work.

thanks for the advice.
Yes I do want the best for her. How or where will I find someone to get her assessed?
and experts on the breed.
As the previous poster mentioned get in touch with the person who bred your girl. They should be able to point you in the right direction.

You could try contacting one of the breed clubs - contact details at the bottom of the
Breed Standard. They will be able to tell you what tests she would need to pass (I know Lhasas should be eye-tested) and hopefully someone will be able to assess her for you. Good luck!

Thank you all for your help and advice.
I am sure that I will be in contact again as my adventures begin!!
Cheers

Have you had her eye tested, there is a problem over the last few year with Lhasa Apso's eye's so would have to be done before any good breeder would let you use there stud dog. Had Lhasa Apso 30 years ago and I know that they suffer Luxateing Pattels (spelling terrible). you would have to study the lines your bitch is bred from and find out if there are any hereditary faults in the line you have. I would leave it untill next season to breed and you will have a better chance of getting a male that is compatable with your girl. I know that there are some good breeders in the Northampton area. Are you a member of the Lhasa club there are a few about the country that would be a good place to start. I live not far from Northampton and in the ad trader this week there were about 6 litter for sale some of them being 13 weeks old and rangeing from just £200. Please wait and do your research you would need an outstanding litter to sell in this area
