We have just had bengi done last monday and they gave him stuff at the vets but that was all. He has not been in pain since but if your worried then just ask. I went for an extra checkup as my other dog stood on his bits and no charge so that was good.

She will get a painkiller at the time of the op and depending on the bitch, may get sent home with pain relief. If she doesn't get any extra away with her and the following day you notice she seems to be quite uncomfortable, just call the surgery and ask them to put some aside for you. Most bitches don't need any more pain relief but there are always some who seem to feel it more than others.

My vet only gave my dog pain relief the day of the op. The problem with dogs is that if they feel no discomfort they will leap, jump and run as if they had not just had major surgery - not a good idea.
As it is, many bitches don't seem to have pain 24 hours after the operation and it is difficult to keep them still. I've had bitches that pranced out of the vet's surgery, ready to take on the world, 6 hours after the operation. The bitch I had spayed most recently clearly was in some discomfort (she did not want to poop and was not very active) for about 4-5 days post surgery. Since she is a Cairn and given to jumping on and off the sofa and bed it was a good thing for her to be subdued.

My bitch Tia was done last Wednesday. She was given a painkiller on the day of the operation and slept much of the rest of the day when we got her home. She didn't seem to be in much pain overnight and the next morning she was up and about looking for her breakfast as if she had never been under the knife ! :)
It's now 5 days since she had her operation and my biggest problem is keeping her rested until she gets her stitches out next week !
I hope it all goes well for you today & don't worry too much honestly I think you'll be surprised how well your dog will cope & likely your biggest problem will be trying trying to keep her rested for two weeks. :)

My vet gave my dogs painkillers in the surgery and supplied me with some for post op. They were both kept crated or on lead and well occupied with other things (mostly stuffed Kongs ;)) to limit their activity - I don't think it's fair to rely on pain to restrict activity :(
