I would love to achieve a bronze award with Lana and have just researched what is required to do so on the kennel club website.  Thought I'd ask for your experiences, also, I understand the handler is tested on some doggy knowledge?  What kind of questions would I be asked?  Does anyone know of a good training class in the Bristol area that covers aspects of this award scheme?
Sarah :)

Hi, i have just gone through the scheme and got the gold award last week.  It was good fun and i would highly recommend it for you and your dog.

The dog questions are based on four sheets of a4 info given to you at the start, and are basically just common sense things about being a good owner and dog care.  Go for it!

Well Done you on getting your gold!  I am quite determined at the moment to have a go, my girlie is six months at the mo, but she is very good at basic obedience (not bad for a sight hound - my friends told me she couldn't be trained!! :D) - we currently do block clicker training courses and we start terrible teens in two weeks  but I would also like to do some obedience and dare I say a bit of ringcraft in the week on a regular basis...I'll have to see how we cope with the 'Kevin' phase :D

can i ask what do you consider is the teen stage and the 'kevin' stage? ive read this on another thread and its starting to baffle me :-)

Hi DT!  It is 'THAT' phase where your pupster is the equivalent of an ignorant, bad mannered teenager :D - for some it could be that all your training suddenly goes out the window, temporary deafness when recalling (as in my case) where a long rein may be required, maybe accidents in the house for a normally house trained dog, hormones playing up?  The age at when this happens depends on the individual - I know a couple of owners that had this phase at around 8 months (large breed)  My pup is six months and her recalls have become a bit dodgy   'Kevin' is the teenager from the 'Harry Enfield' sketch Kevin and Perry :D
Hope this helps,
Sarah

Hi there,
The Bronze test is really easy, and even the Gold questions are pretty simple!

The kennel club will send you a list of clubs in your area that provide GC training and tests if you ask.  The questions that you will be asked will come from a prepared list that you will be provided with once you enrol; they are very basic.
