When my Welsh Terrier looks in the mirror does she know it is her reflection she is seeing or does she think it is another dog? Sometimes she stares at the mirror blankly and other times she will run up and bark at her reflection.
This puzzles me too. First time Morse saw his reflection he barked and ran up, watched the reflection do as he did then ignored it ever after so maybe he worked it out? Probably chasing his reflection was less rewarding than a muck about with his pals so he stopped noticing it.

I think Rosie must be much slower off the mark than other dogs - lovable but daft!!! Just out of interest what breed is morse?
Hi, Morse is PointerX Greyhound, nearly all Pointer with added Grey for speed and chasing. What do Welsh Terriers look like? Rosie is probably smarter than we know - cute but daffy worked for Goldie Hawns career for YEARS!

I found myself wondering this myself when my Bedli was a pup so I lifted him up so he could see both of us in a big mirror and his eyes almost popped out of this head when he saw two of me :D :D and then he looked at his reflection, licked his nose and I could see the 'click' happen, he wagged his tail and its all been very blase ever since. Now he looks at his reflection but isn't surprised. He also watches dogs and other animals on the TV, some he barks at, others he just watches - his favourite is a tape I've got with some friends Bedlis on it :)

Welsh terriers look like those little dogs on wheels that little kids push around when learning to walk. Rosie is black and tan ; black back and rest of body tan with a little grizzle that never looks the same as when she's just been groomed cause she likes to brivate in everything! Trust me , she's not smarter than we think - we point to the floor and say " whats that " and she twirls round looking at the ceiling , she walks into walls and doors and then looks at us as if to say " who put that there? " Tim nice but dim springs to mind!
My Siberians don't think anything of their reflections. Kieron always walks right past, I don't even think she has ever noticed it before. But Houdini, when he discovered the mirror, he sniffed it, tilted his head from left to right, then turned and walked away and has never noticed it since. Rather cute, in my opinon. But as the post above says, Houdini tends to run and slip into walls quite frequently. (He doesn't hurt himself) On one instance, he was chasing after Kieron and stopped at my bedroom doorway. I was here on the computer and started to talk to him. He decided he wanted to chase Kieron again and turned to go after her. But he wacked his poor little head on the doorframe, causing a loud bang. I'm sure it must have hurt, but he didn't yelp. He just shook his head and ran after Kieron again.

Your two sound very much fun to live with! Sounds exciting but probably tiring at times?
I loved those wheelie dogs when I was wee and always wanted one but sadly never got it or the rocking horse with a real mane. :D Bless Rosies wee battered nose.

We (husband :) ) are decorating and put a large mirror on the floor a few days ago. I should video Barney cos he is fascinated with it. He walks around watching himself, sits in front of it turning his head from side to side and turns around to watch all of us in the mirror and keeps peeking at himself. It keeps him amused for ages - I think I will keep it where it is for now. Molly doesnt take any notice of it all. She watches TV but Barney doesnt take any notice of that :)
Gina :p
lily loves the mirror, she sits and watches herself in it, if i come into her view she watches me too, so she can definitely work out what is going on - if i wave she wags her tail and turns around. although my mum wasn't too impressed when we went round yesterday and lily proceeded to make slimy trails all over her oven with a shiny mirrored door !

I remember when I got my dog Holly as a puppy, on the first day she was really insecure about her new home and wouldn't stop crying, but when she went in my room and looked in the mirror, she suddenly stopped and started wagging her tail. Her reflection reminded her of her littermates, but all dogs are different. Since then her bed has been placed by a mirror for comfort :)
