this is a very embarassing problem but a natural one, to which i am starting to get used to, from a young age i was always hairy, dark hairs on my arms and legs.
I started using a razor and now regret it as they are thicker and spikier, i have started, well since the birth of the kids, getting dark facial hair, upper lip, chin and under my chin.
it gets me down sometimes as i wake up and see a bloody goaty appearing.
i cant use immac nor any so called sensitve creams as i blotch.
So ive maintained the razor for removing this damn hair.
It is getting beyond a joke yet im luckier than most of you ive only the 1 leg to shave haha.
i dont think im brave enough for waxing or electrolosis? im a coward at pain.i can only just cope with eye brows waxing and the beutician has said i would need to let the hair on my face grow long enough for waxing to be effective, i dont think so, the freak circuses have gone so has the bearded ladies and im not walking up next to simon with a goaty.hell have a fit bless him.
any ideas please and your own niggling wines about hair.
sam

Get down to the salon now!!!
they can help you!
thank god i have light body hair, but i have friends with this problem.
some men like it though!!!!

go for the electrolosis, it works wonders and i've heard that its not that painfull, rather do that than shave would be terified of cutting myself :)

i am scarred of the pain involved, if i have waxing id have to let the facial hair grow and this will be damn embarrasing.
i cant bear the thought of needles in my skin for electrolosis, my skin type is sensitive and creams make me blotchy and red.

Steph you do it with a ladysave

oh, never shaved before always used wax on all areas, my mum told me that if you kept shaving the hair would get thicker and thicker

:)

my mum told me this also but the beutician says its an old wifes tale, the hair just grows back quicker and spikier as the head had been sliced with a fine blade, this gives the impression the hair has grown back thicker.

Its up to you sam! id prefer to be blotchy for a few days than hairy! also how painful can it be? cant be worse than child birth can it? us girls need to do this sort of thing to look err...girly!

if i was you id get it bleached (blotches or not!) until it gets long enough to wax. waxing is over & done with quickly & is ok if someone else does it! i expect your skin will get abit less sensitive after youve been bleached a couple of times!

There are loads of new hair removal methods available sam. I get my top lip waxed even although I only have a bit of fair hair and it only nips for a second and then it's over. They have stuff to put on it to stop it being so red too (although maybe the wax is too hot?). Phone around a few salons in your area and ask them, they're usually very helpful and some even do short trial appointments so that you can try it. Good luck.

I would go for electrolysis, Sam. Creams bring me out in a rash, and waxing is incredibly painful (for me, anyway - it makes my legs bleed

) so I wouldn't want to try it on my face.

Does anyone get ingrowing hairs? i do when i do my "bikini". they are really strange arent they?

dunno, i just sort of squeeze or dig them out with tweezers! its amazing how long something can grow inside yor body isnt it?

Go and see your doctor - there are sometimes medical reasons for hair appearing where it did not used to be (apart from growing older)

I was goin to say the same thing Kerioak - ovarian cysts being one of them........
Yep I agree, go to your doctor. You probably have a hormone imbalance-too much testosterone I should think. Ask him for a hormone count. It's easily treatable, he may put you on the pill. Mind you are you planning on having a baby at some stage? pregnancy is good for stabilizing your hormones, about 12 months after giving birth they usually settle down to normal levels. Not that I'm advocating you go have a kid instead of using immac!! lol heaven forbid, only if you are planning one.
I have an asian friend who has this problem and she goes to have her face "threaded" every so often. This is an asian technique whereby a piece of very fine thread is rolled around the face and gently pulls out the unwanted hair. She looks fabulous after this treatment, and she said it's not too painful -less painful than giving birth anyway LOL Did you know that plucking, waxing, & threading will reduce the hair growth in the long term. I started having my legs waxed in my 20's and within 3 yrs they were nowhere as near so hairy. Nowadays I hardly have any, and have large areas on my legs where the hair has just stopped growing all together. So it really is worth a bit of pain, although to be honest I don't find it painful, more uncomfortable I would say.
Whatever you decide to do, remember that girls who have this problem always think it's far worse than it actually is, I bet other people don't notice as much as you think they do. Good Luck!

i went to my doctor once and he refered me to the hospital.
only problem was i had to let my face hair grow for a few weeks to show them, hence i didnt go as i would have looked like a man with a bloody goaty.
a friend did say once about hormones and at 37 now the clock is ticking with hair..
sam
had a right idea!!!!!!!!next companion dog show i could let the hair grow and enter best 6 legs id win the trophy?or best brace hehe
Well if you really want to get this sorted then something has got to give. If you did grow your hair in order to see a consultant you could bleach it so it's less noticable. What's a few weeks of being embarrassed compared to a lifetime of shaving and being self concious about it?
By the way, if this is the reason why you don't want to go down the waxing or threading route, you really don't need that much growth to have it done, my friend hardly has any length to hers when she goes for threading.

i have spent many a year feeling self concious due to having a limp and an artificial leg, i guess im an expert at that.
as i am dark haired even if i grow it for say 2 weeks it will be so very noticible.
it is a horrible thing to have to put up with.

Try finding a beauticians that does Epil Pro it involves tweezers that give off some sort of electric pulse (can't remember exactly what it is) and gradually over a few month as the hairs are pulled out the roots die off and taaaadaaaaaa no more hair :D :D. I speak from experience and I had a session of it today :D :D :D

You have my every sympathy Sam, I'm dark haired too and have legs and arms that a tarantula would be proud of if I let it run wild :( Plus the facial hair. I use an epilady thing, but I have to psych myself up for a session because it is excrutiatingly painful! I hope you find a solution that works for you :)

thanks everybody for putting up with my wine, i think in my case it is going to be a case of RAZOR.

i think you are mad to do it yourself with a razor, its just going to get worse. be brave & go to a really good salon where they can advise you properally.
about a year ago there was a tv (ch4?) prog on it. did you see it?
Well, most salons these days wax all sorts of places on women, including backs, arms, toes etc. Years ago i did a beauty course (i have no idea why!!!) and had to do some of these things. Waxing arms is great because even on dark haired ladies, the hair starts to come through a little bit finer quickly. Some ladies start at the end of autumn when they can wear long sleeves and after several waxing sessions are more confident, so that by the following spring, the hair is finer and it looks like anyone else's arm hair as it grows for waxing. These ladies had very dari hair and light skin; I would really think about giving it a go.
Try Boots wax strips, not the re-usable ones, the other ones and you can do it yourself - cheaper :) But maybe start off with a salon. It honestly isn't as painful as you may think, and after a while it gets LESS painful too ;)
Tip: take a couple of paracetamol before any treatment, and also avoid times up to and during the period, also mid cycle as you can be much more sensitive.
As for the face, it depends on how much hair and whether it is dark and downy, or thick and bristly. Many nowadays are opting for the new laser treatments which are supposed to be very successful. Julia Carling and otheres have had it done, and it works beston dark hair. It is expensive ish though but is supposed to be very highly effective and feels like a rubber band being tweaked on the skin? Do a bit of research first as some lasers are better than others, Nlight rings a bell for being good but do check if you want to go down that path.

funnily enough i did see the programme about bogy hair, it was brill esp to see other women having the same problem, some even think it is natural and dont mind a thick beard or mustache, personally i would die to have to walk around with it like that, my friend told me about a product from boots so i could try it i suppose, thanks all for your feedback.
sam
I would go to your doctor and get your hormone levels checked because as someone else mentioned it could be an imbalance. I suffer from polycystic ovarian syndrome and excess hair is one of the most common factors. I have excess hair myself so I can sympathise. I use immac wax strip to remove hair and tweezers for the stubborn ones.
