Was checking the B.V.As hip score table/chart for yorkies but they do not appear to be listed! Does this breed not have a mean score or what is the story?
I'm wanting to buy a puppy and wish to buy the healthiest I possibly can. Unfortunatley my knowledge is somewhat limited (but I'm learning).
What health checks should I look for in the parents and what health checks should I have carried out on my little puppy when he/she comes along. A full program for worming times intervials etc would be great but I understand you may not have the time to go through all this with me. I have vets details and details of a breed club near me but I wish to gain as much knowledge as I possibly can before contacting them.
I have posted several messages on this site as a guest and thank all of you for your replies. As well as being new to the dog world I am new to the technology of the internet and don't have an email account setup yet but its a priority to do so and when I get this I will definatley register with this site and take part in some of your disscussions. Thank you all again. Mary C. Scotland.

Mary, as a groomer I can tell you that Yorkie's have a BIG problem with luxating patellae - slipping kneecaps - which in some cases cause the dogs a lot of pain and need an expensive operation, so certainly worth asking about. If you contact a breeder through the breed club, then at least (hopefully) the breeder will be experienced and KNOW about any problems in the breed, as opposed to someone with no knowledge who 'just fancies having a litter' in complete ignorance! Although the Yorkie breed standard states that they should be under 7lb, I've trimmed Yorkies as big as Cocker Spaniels with wooly coats and floppy ears - not bred from show stock - so if you really want a Yorkie, and not a donkey, then be guided by the breed club!! ;)
Good luck in your search!
