I am sick to death of people who know NOTHING but think they know everything .
We were at Merseyside SBT Handling class tonight when one man said we needed to "feed" Gus up ( although a judge recently mentioned in his critique that Gus was a super example of how a dog at this age and stage of development should look") and another idiot asked "have you asked much practice "? .
Well yes since we have been placed by judges with the top dog/bitch in the UK and also qualified for Crufts
I wouldnt mind but none of them are ever at any shows ??
sorry - just need to let off steam at all the know nothings !!!! :(

What a joke and wont be going again !

Another said he looked TOO tall and hes only "just" in the breed standard . and all they went on about was big bulldog heads and how great they are ? Excuse me - have a look at the BREED STANDARD !!!!!
( takes a deep breath )

I wouldn't worry a judge at an open show i went to the other week asked me what colour my border collie was, when i replyed that he was a blue, she told me there was no such colour and argued with me for 5 mins before not placing me!
Who is the one more likely to know the Border Collie breeder or the judge who breeds Chinese Crested?
- By Val [gb] Date 25.02.04 15:05 UTC
I'm afraid that I won't enter Open Shows these days unless they put on breed judges. :(  I know that everyone has to learn but not at my expense!!  In my day - golly doesn't that make me sound old!! - we paid to travel and attend breed seminars if we were interested in breeds other than our own.
- By gypsymosh [gb] Date 25.02.04 15:09 UTC
well because i work now i can't take time off for big champ shows, so i limit myself and my money to local open shows at the weekend.
Sometimes it seems a waste of time but i'd miss leaving the dog world altogether.

lel, my experience is that most ringcraft classes are run by people who have time on their hands and little success in the showring!  The dog world is full of people who've been around for 20 years but because they don't listen and learn, actually have 12 month's worth of experience!!  Having said that, the people who give their time to run these classes usually have their hearts in the right place and love dogs so ringcraft is often a good place for your dog to socialise and train your dog the way that is right for you both!
You're doing just fine in the ring.  Keep doing what you're doing, smile sweetly and let the twaddle go over your head!!

When I bred my first litter many moons ago (& Nicky will vouch for this one!),  Nicky had picked her pup and asked someone who had had the breed literally since it's importation to the UK, what his opinion of the pup was......

He said it was ok, you'll have some fun with her at open shows.......

5 CC's & 7 RCC's later..... Oh yes she has had fun at open shows too with over 30 BOB's & several group placements!

Lel,

I've had the same kind of problems!

I took one of the shepherds in to the vets the other day to have his hips x-rayed, and the vet literally had a go at me because this dog is slim.
She admitted to knowing absolutely nothing about shepherds, but still went on and on about him being too thin, too tall, too gangly.  He's 12 months old for heaven sake.  GSD's tend to grow upwards first and then outwards later!  And apart from that, he's the perfect height!  I got so annoyed and kept stressing about it and then looking at the dog...thinking, well she must know what she's talking about, she's a vet.

Another time, we were at ring craft and we're the only ones there with Germanic type GSD's.  They people who run the class insisted that our dogs should be shown with their heads held up high and the collar right under their chins.

Oh well..it's all good fun :D

Think i took it too personally because to me he is a member of the family and not just "a dog"
How would they like it if I approached them and say "O your kid is ugly" - there I think not !!;)
- By mali fan [gb] Date 25.02.04 16:28 UTC
Hi Lel,
At least you've got your priorities right.  He's not a winning machine!!  They're pets first, then showdogs.  You stick to your guns!!
As for fattening him up, they're supposed to be muscled, not fat!!  Some people.

Sarah.
- By munster [gb] Date 21.02.04 23:38 UTC
will stick up for you on that one. she did do alright and the biggest slap in the face is when I saw him not long after she won Best of Breed at Crufts. He didn't really have an answer. I don't know yet what he thought was so wrong with her. in the end if she had never won a thing she would still have been our girl and a loving pet.  Shows are a hobby our dogs are members of the family.
