We got our lab puppy, Lexie, at 6 months. She was neglected so she didn't know how to walk on a leash, or even play. Well we've had her for about 3 weeks now, and she can walk on a leash, and play fine but we're having a very difficult time house training her. We can have her outside for hours and she will still go in the house. We tell her no, and put her outside as soon as she does it, but she still goes inside. Any tips?

Keep doing what you're doing the penny will drop eventually. :)

When I rehomed my boy at 6 months he had a very sketchy idea of housetraining. I didn't see an improvement for about 4/5 weeks and I must admit I was pretty despairing and pretty tired and the carpet was well christened. I went the route of taking him out every time he went near the door and that was often. I also kept him on the lead in the garden until he had done something so he would not be distracted then praise and let off to play. 9 weeks on from the day I got him he barks to go out. Stick with it and don't give up you'll get there or rather he will :)

You're telling her off for going to the toilet and you are putting her outside when she doesn't need to go. Try taking her outside before she goes and tell her she's good for peeing and pooing. It may take a while for her to be happy about going when you are watching her though. ;)

How frequently are you taking her out? It needs to be fairly often in the hope that you might catch the moment. She may also still be lacking in confidence to go in the garden, so the more time she can spend out there to learn it's an OK place to be the better...

Hiya,
Just wanted to share our successful experience to try and help. We picked up our perfectly house trained Basset at 5 months of age. Alas, she wasn't showing these signs when we brought her home :) ...basically because she didn't know where her new 'toilet door' was in her new home bless her. So, we concentrated on this element of training more than anything else at first. We got her to focus on the doormat by placing titbits there, (without her seeing this or calling her) and as soon as she found the treat and sat on the mat (to eat it !), we praised her, said "Outside" and put the lead on to take her straight out....even if she didn't quite make it :)
After a week of this, it did start to register that the doormat meant "Outside", she'd sit on it if we said the word (having praise but without a treat)....and we progessed to giving her the treat just while she was actually performing outside :)
Perhaps 2-3 weeks of treats on the mat may work for you?...make them interesting ones to add incentive....and watch out for the opportunity as soon as it arises :D:
Giving the treat at the exact time of performing outside, together with a chosen word ( Wee, poo or whatever you choose), has actually started to show signs of going to the toilet 'on demand' for us now....will have to keep working on it to make sure its not conicidental though ;)
The other thing we learnt, was that we undoubtedly confused our poor baby, as we impatiently kept swapping different methods in the hope of early success  Consistancy may well have been the successful factor, rather than actual process?
HTH
