I'm thinking of buying a minibus in the summer but had a thought tonight. As I'm only just over 5' tall will my feet reach the pedals? I don't think I'd be able to move the seat much closer than it is. I think I'll have to look at a few before I decide.
- By mygirl [gb] Date 19.02.04 22:25 UTC
I'm 5ft and i couldn't drive my husbands old ford transit, we used to have an old orion and i couldn't reach that either!
Maybe fords were built for big people?? lol Just a thought!
- By munster [gb] Date 19.02.04 22:57 UTC
Linda try sitting in Eric's transit and see how it feels. If we go anywhere with the five dogs we always take the tranny as it is so much easier although more expensive than the scenic.
- By Joe [gb] Date 19.02.04 23:01 UTC
Minibuses are too big for girls.  Get yourself a nice Cinquicento or a Corsa.  They have a rear view mirror to hang air fresheners and a parcel shelf for all your cuddly toys :D
- By mygirl [gb] Date 19.02.04 23:03 UTC
Lol i expect your car is a volvo estate Joe so you can fit your ego in? :D
- By Joe [gb] Date 19.02.04 23:09 UTC
Mygirl, I'm really very shy - it's only on here I'm a gob ;)
- By Lea Date 19.02.04 23:12 UTC
I drive 2 transit vans. One F reg. and an N reg
The N reg has a seat that raises and lowers. So you may find some mini busses have the same .
I am 5'11" so cant vouch for whether you will reach!!!!!!

Oh,and Joe. I can even reverse park transit vans :O
Lea :)

- By mygirl [gb] Date 19.02.04 23:15 UTC
You've really caught him out with that comment Lea, If you can even do a 3point turn that will confuse him more! :D
- By Lea Date 19.02.04 23:18 UTC
Oh yes My girl. On narrow roads as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lea :D

Forward.  Bump.  Reverse.  Bump.  Forward.  Bumpity Bump.

Those are kerbs and that was the paper boy. :D
- By mygirl [gb] Date 19.02.04 23:21 UTC
Joe you really gotta stop winding the ladies up as one day when you may be at a show you are going to get lynched. :D
- By Lea Date 19.02.04 23:23 UTC
Oh Joe, sorry to hear about your 3 point turn experience. How is the paperboy now???? Has he forgiven you yet?????????
Lea :/
- By Joe [gb] Date 19.02.04 23:29 UTC

- By Lea Date 19.02.04 23:30 UTC
We will still spot you!!!!!!!!!!!
You can run, but you cant hide!!!!!!!
Lea :)

You don't scare me!  And on that note - am off to drag Norman round the block - his snoring is driving me mad.  Now, don't stay up to late and don't forget to brush your teeth.  :)
- By porkie [gb] Date 19.02.04 23:32 UTC
I'm 5'2" and I drive both a mercedes sprinter or a renault master for work, depends on which van is needed that day! so don't be put off by any 'woman driver' comments or lack of self confidence.

Sit in the vehicle you choose to buy and test drive it first! You won't know what you can achieve before you at least give it a go :)

I also have a full clean licence which covers vans and is a full motorcycle one,so have also had experience of riding many different cc.motorbikes.

I love driving!

Just for Joe,
NO MY VANS DO NOT HAVE ANY SCRATCHES,BUMPS OR OTHER INDENTATIONS PUT THERE BY ME!
YES I AM A POLITE DRIVER TOWARD OTHERS (EXCEPT MAYBE BMW DRIVERS! THEY ALWAYS SEEM TO WANT TO HOG THE ROAD OR CUT PEOPLE UP) APOLOGIES IF YOU DRIVE A BMW  AND ARE THE EXCEPTION TO THE NORM :D
YES I DO MANY MILES PER WEEK AND DRIVE IN ALL TYPES OF TRAFFIC.
YES I CAN REVERSE PARK WITHOUT HITTING,BOLLARDS,GATE POSTS,LITTLE OLD LADIES AND PAPER BOYS!

So don't knock women drivers please we aren't all as bad as some men drivers out there!

I'm also now off the soapbox so over to you Joe :D :D
- By ice_queen Date 19.02.04 23:40 UTC
I think Joe is just jelous as his car has many dents put in by HIMSELF!!!!

women are the better drivers, its just unfortantant that things like trees and posts like to jump into some womens cars from time to time!!!

- By mygirl [gb] Date 19.02.04 23:47 UTC
Joe's car is battered from all the attempts of getting his big head to fit behind the steering wheel :D
I wouldn't even bother justifying yourself porkie he won't listen to us mere women (although it is well known that women are the perfect species) ;)
- By dizzy [gb] Date 20.02.04 00:31 UTC

- By Lea Date 20.02.04 07:49 UTC

- By Joe [gb] Date 20.02.04 12:23 UTC
I beg your pardon??!!??   Didn't notice you when I turned the light off :D
- By LF [gb] Date 20.02.04 08:06 UTC
I'm sorry girls (squeeks Lesley in a small apologetic voice) but I am that woman Joe is talking about :o  I've reversed into a lampost, outside a male bondy type work place where I had an appointment, right in front of the hut full of security guards :(  I got out to look at the damage (£678 worth) and didn't know whether to sit on the kerb and burst into tears or laugh nonchalently and get back in the car and finish the manouvre.  But there were men watching, so I girded my loins and did the latter :D

Then there was the time I reversed into a bollard in a car park.  Well, what a stupid place to put it!!!  But that was ok, cos the marks on the car came off with T-Cut.

And, of course there was the time we were staying at a hotel and you could park the car inbetween this black shed thing and the room.  THIS ONE WAS NOT MY FAULT!!!!!!  I was reversing when I noticed OH behind the car making "come on" gestures.  Good I thought, he's guiding me in.  Reverse, bang, dented shed/car   So I says, you guided me in, you stupid b****y a***.  No I wasn't, says he, I was waving to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  So to save face, I says, well, its a black shed, what a stupid colour to paint it, how was I supposed to see it in the dark.  And from then forth whenever I'm driving the car and something black hoves into view, OH goes into a "black, blaaacckkkkk, oh no its black, watch out, its blaaaaacckkkkkk"  monologue. Grrrrrr

I'm not proud of being backwardly challenged :(  But I do the going forward bits quite well :)

Lesley
- By Joe [gb] Date 20.02.04 11:24 UTC
Lesley.

So it's you!!!!  Apologies ladies.  I used to work with some excellent women drivers.  There were six women advanced drivers in a department of about 300 - you do the math.

My lil sis reversed into the same concrete post at our local swimming baths THREE WEEKS RUNNING.

Sorry, I know some women are excellent drivers but next time you're out and someone appears to be unable to drive - see who's behind the wheel.  Bet she has lipstick and a skirt.

And Mygirl, your insults hurt me deeply.  I am a sensitive chap you know :(
- By EMMA DANBURY [gb] Date 20.02.04 11:58 UTC
'Bet she has lipstick and a skirt' and  is called Dave.
- By LindyLou [gb] Date 20.02.04 15:48 UTC
I've been driving CARS for 26 years and haven't had an accident yet. Well, except for the time I drove into my step-brothers Merc (his dad was sitting in it at the time  ) Well, I'd been driving a Metro for 2 years and had taken my dad's 2Ltr Cavalier out for the first time. Anyone can misjudge once in their lives, can't they? :)

I just never thought of leg room until yesterday. Thanks Nicky, I'll maybe take you up on the offer of trying the Transit. Don't suppose you could bring it to ringcraft on Tuesday? ;)
- By munster [gb] Date 20.02.04 22:04 UTC
yeah linda or we might bring it along tomorrow to watch the show
- By Lea Date 20.02.04 18:14 UTC
I am going to get slaughtered now.
Most women cant reverse park, because, It is something to do with the left and right side of the brain, in women it is reversed!!!!!
Women that can reverse mark have more male hormones in them.
Most bad drivers are women.
Most ignorant, arrogant, pushy, road hogging, cutting up, up your ar*e did I mention ignorant?? drivers are MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
At least women who cant drive, curtiously appologise when they cut you up cause they are putting on lipstick while driving :D
Lea :)
(off to run and hide from all the women on here!!!!!!!!)
- By Joe [gb] Date 20.02.04 18:20 UTC
Most ignorant, arrogant, pushy, road hogging, cutting up, up your ar*e did I mention ignorant?? drivers are MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not where I live.  We have a new breed called 'Girl Racers'.  First little car, nippy and cute.  They are accidents looking for somewhere to happen and I cringe every time I see then overtaking on solid whites or cutting across traffic.  And believe me, I've picked a lot of them off the roads.

I am courteous, patient and pleasant behind the wheel.

Sometimes :)
- By Lara Date 20.02.04 18:24 UTC
Funny how 'one lady driver' always seems to be a selling point in a second hand car  :D
Lara x
- By Joe [gb] Date 20.02.04 18:44 UTC
That because you only ever go to the shops and back - low mileage :D
- By Lara Date 20.02.04 18:47 UTC
Well that could be true but when you have to go to Morrisons for carrot cake, Tescos for fruit, Asda for veg and ready meals and Sainsbury's for Jelly Belly's it soon adds up :D
Lara x
- By Carla Date 20.02.04 19:00 UTC
Not to mention some women go all the way there and back in 1st gear :D
- By Lara Date 20.02.04 19:24 UTC
Depends how loud you have your music whether you notice or not :D

- By Carla Date 20.02.04 19:31 UTC
:D :D @ Lara!
- By LF [gb] Date 20.02.04 18:25 UTC
Yes!!!  You're right Lea, it is the left-righty side of the brain thing plus women have poorer spatial awareness than men which means that a lot of us are rubbish at reversing and parking. I cheerfully admit that I am hard wired to reverse into things :D

Woman have more reversing type bump accidents, whereas mens' accidents tend to be of the multiple pileup and mayhem sort, caused by just the sort of male driving behaviour you describe :)

Lesley
PS Although I do agree with Joe that there are more and more young girlies about driving in an aggressive and dangerous way :(
- By Kerioak Date 20.02.04 18:42 UTC
Hi Lindylou

Until 6 months ago I had a Toyata Hiace and it was brilliant - I could have had the seat much further forward if I had wished and it might be worth considering.

My current vehicle has reversing alarms - It says it is touching at least a foot before it actually does so unless my foot slips I should not back into anything, except for the fact it also goes off when there are plants so I don't always believe it :)
- By LindyLou [gb] Date 20.02.04 18:57 UTC
Hmm. Looks like I'm going to be busy over the next couple of months going around the garages for a looksee. (They do still have men showing the vehicles don't they? - might start looking for one of them, too ;) ) Do you think they'd take me for a test drive?
- By LF [gb] Date 20.02.04 19:04 UTC
Probably show you the gearstick too if you ask them nicely ;)
- By LindyLou [gb] Date 20.02.04 19:10 UTC
I think I might just drop by tomorrow and see what's around. There might be a mini bus or two as well ;)
- By Lea Date 20.02.04 19:14 UTC
Can I come too LindyLou???????
Just to check the mini bus, of course :D
Lea :)
- By Joe [gb] Date 20.02.04 19:23 UTC
Ohmigod.  What have you started.  They're dangerous enough in the Corsas.  God forbid they all start driving trannies :D :D
- By LindyLou [gb] Date 20.02.04 21:49 UTC
Of course you can come.Anyone else? You never know what we might find. :D . Oh, I have to go to my 25 yr old sons house first (he's single ;) ) I will also have Chance with me as I've got a show in Dundee tomorrow (just a Limited one - so it won't take long :D )
- By Christine Date 20.02.04 22:09 UTC
Hmmm lady drivers eh. Passed my driving test for car first time on the Tuesday & then drove to L/pool via Santander on my own in a mini 3 dys later on the Friday & the only bump I got was when the concierge from the hotel I stopped overnight in Seville reversed me into a bollard in the underground carpark  ;) :D Also have a clean full motor cycle license but that took me 4 tries before I passed!!!

Christine, Spain.
- By Lara Date 20.02.04 22:10 UTC
Just watched someone who passed on the 20th attempt
Lara x
- By Lea Date 20.02.04 22:13 UTC
OMG Lara, dont you think they should have taken the hint after failing 5 times?????? :D
Where are they from. Just so as I never go there!!!!!!!!
Lea :)
- By Lara Date 20.02.04 22:16 UTC
Don't know where they were from but it was very scary viewing!  Entertaining - as long as you aren't anywhere in the vicinity as either another motorist or a pedestrian :D

Do I dare to say my honest opinion of women drivers on CD? oh ok then I will.
I travel more than double the average miles per year & do a lot of M/way driving. (yes I do spend half my life in the car & the other half on CD) So I see quite a few drivers on the road. Now most times that you see a dodgy driver it's a woman! & 10 times out of 10 (yes without exception) when a driver is trying to build up the courage to hesitantly move lanes it is always (without a doubt) a woman. So I guess my point is, most poor drivers are woman BUT NOT ALL WOMEN DRIVERS ARE POOR!
From Snoopy1 - who will happily drive any vehicle better than any man on this board! ;)
- By Joe [gb] Date 20.02.04 22:28 UTC
Never!!!!! :)
- By Smudgley [gb] Date 20.02.04 22:29 UTC
never what?
