Hoping for some sound advice.
Can anyone tell me if there is a verifiable method of obtaining seman for A.I. i.e If
I was interested in obtaining the same from a dog in a different country is there a process in place that would mean I could be sure that I had got what I thought I was getting and not get any unpleasant suprises for me or more importantly my bitch.
Also what are the pros and cons of A.I.

Don't know if you are in UK but if you are you I believe you cannot AI and register the pups with the KC.

you can use AI in the UK and register the pups with the KC..but their permission has to be sought first

Thanks for that archer, I was unsure it was just something someone told me and it was stuck in the back of my mind I have never checked it out properly!

And also the dog donor can't be resident in the UK - the semen has to be imported from abroad.

If the dog was UK resident and is deceased then AI can be used with KC permission.  There have been at least two Dobe litters this way in the last few months.

Hi, well I suppose you could ask for a DNA test on the dog, and have the pserm tested too.  However, we didnt do that with our AI litter last year, perhamps it helps that we know the owner of the stud dog used.  And you can certainly register the pups, but quite a lot of paperwork to fill in and get written approval first from the KC.  Also customs formalities for importing it into the UK (and it must be frozen, not fresh)

Just out of interest, as I was asked for this some time ago and thought it was going to be too much bother plus I wouldn't have been sure I had control on the bitch it was used on once sent.

Dont think it is a problem from this end, but depends on the regulations of the receiving country.  The 'chill' boxes often crop up on e-bay.
