Hi,
Help, I have a 13 month old chocolate lab who I adore, the problem is he is very bolshy and when he doesn't get his own way he bites. He's been to obedience classes, been castrated and I've carried on training him at home. I did have a black lab for 15 years and he had a fantastic temperament. Since getting my chocolate lab I have been told they are far more stubborn than black ones but I don't know if there is any truth to that. Is anyone else experiencing this????

Not experience directly, but remember he is a teenager in dog years so some kicking over the traces is to be expected, but I'd be a bit worried about biting (unless we're talking about mouthing, which is very different) - what sort of training methods are you using?

We started with food and praise for good behaviours and with walking away and ignoring him when he was naughty, to then get him out of the habit of expecting food we introduced a few "special" toys to reward him with, we then started to use his lead as a common factor only allowing him off it when he was good - both in and out of the house. All these work to a point but then he gets very excited runs round and grabs, somtimes it's just mouthing but sometimes he does get a grip, I have seen him do this when playing with other dogs so I'm not sure whether he thinks he's playing and he's just very rough or whether he is being aggressive??
What do you think??
Thank you for replying.

It sounds as if it's frustration (just like human teenagers - it's his version of slamming the door ;)) try offering him something like a ragger to vent his anger on so he doesn't get into trouble with his teeth.
