Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Any Tips for standing Husky

When i stand Janska my 10 month husky, most of the time she stands well but sometimes she is all bunched up, i try and stretch her out but she moves her entire body standing in the same bunched up position. Any one got any tips?

Thanks

Try and move her in a circle and bring her back into the stand postion or try pushing her backwards, she will feel so uncomfortable she will hopefully strech back out.

Have you tried teaching her to walk backwards, this often makes them throw their legs back.  Hold a treat at the end of her nose and gently push her back.  Take it a step at a time and use the back command, she should soon pick it up. (Forgot to say, treat her as soon as she puts a foot back and gradually build from there)

I haven't got a husky, but there are a few on here that do, perhaps they can help you further.

hi jenna, well hows things going with the ring craft? i brought my angel (15) weeks old to ringcraft for first time and she was brill. I learned her to stand since she was 7/8 weeks by not letting her have her food until she stood, it really works a treat! she moved so well and even my friends 10 year old who has never shown had a go and they were better than me and her dad ha ha.

Most of the times at ringcraft she doe's well, stands and moves brill. If she stands bunched up rather than straight, i have to move her back legs and tickle her tummy but i find that my hand gets in the way of the judge!!! I only started taken her to ringcraft when she was about 4-5 months old, as i wasn't interested in it then, but now i look forward to going to ringcraft and shows, Janska seems to enjoy her self must be the treats she gets.

ah she seems like she is doing well! my boy got a 1st at an open show when he was under a year and i was so proud but he was crazy like a kangroo he showed me up and i stopped showing him, when i thought last year he had calmed down i would take him back into the ring oh boy kangroo jumps and not listening distracted at everything (having 2 champion parents dont guarantee a show dog). Only now at 21/2 has he clamed down, at ring craft the judges love him they are all impressed that the crazy dog from last year has settled down and they are so impressed that his 14 week old daughter moves so well and looks to be promising!
