Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / kc registration question
- By Smurf598 [gb] Date 18.02.04 17:57 UTC
recently purchased a rottie puppy
did not recieve any kc papers with her
have hand written copy of pedigree with sire and dam kc reg numbers
breeder said she would send off for registration and would forward papers to me still waiting 5 weeks down the line
Is this normal practice?
Is there any where i can check if litter has been registered with kc or would the kc tell me if i phoned them...
Is it normal to pay extra to get full breeding rights with a bitch puppy as i paid additional £100.
Have searched kc website but this breeder not listed as having kc puppies for sale....
Thanks

As you have the name and number of the bitch you can check with the KC that the pups registration is on it's way, if they have not received it they will say so. It is not normal practice to pay extra for the breeding rights, most breeders will place a restriction on the registration and then remove it when the dog has had all the required health tests and is a proven good example of the breed and a credit to their kennel name.

I would chase it up, and do not take excuses, if it has not been done, push hard and you will not be able to show your dog and any pups you breed will not be able to be registered unless you have her papers and that they are in your name.

Jackie's advice as always is right, ring the KC they will tell you what you want to know.

Thanks for the reply Jackie.
If the breeder is not forth coming would i be able to register the pup myelf as i have the Sire and Dam details and numbers etc.
If not do i have any rights as a buyer as i would obviously like the pup to be properly registered.

Sorry no, it has to be the breeder and the owner of the stud has to sign a document too. So contact the KC and then if nothing has been done raise merry hell, do you have anything to say the pup would be KC registered, like a contract or the advert?
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 18.02.04 23:44 UTC
The KC are not interested in getting involved in this side of things!!
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 19.02.04 07:53 UTC
The KC will tell you if a request for registration has been received. They will get involved with that, they can't be involved in the agreement between the puppy breeder and the buyer as they are not involved in that matter, only in the registration.

Hi Jeremy,
No, only the breeder is able to register a pup. The KC will be able to tell you if the registration is 'in the pipeline'.
Good luck.
:)

Hi all,

Thanks for all your replys.

Will ring KC and the breeder tomorrow to check on the registration.

Hopefully i can sort this out, Losing the £100 doesn't bother me, i just want to have the little pup registered.

Once again thanks all.

Will let you know what i find out.

If you only paid £100 I doubt that it wd. be KC registered, can't see anyone selling one for that price with the KC registration.  DId you have anything in writing to say that your pup would be KC registered?
- By Smurf598 [gb] Date 18.02.04 23:51 UTC
Sorry, i paid and extra £100 for the registration.
£400 for the Pedigree Rottweiler Bitch and £100 for the registration. £500 in total.

Have you contacted the breeder to ask for them- it does sound dodgy to me but you never know - they may have got lost in the post?- You could even use that an excuse when asking for them- say that you thought you'd better check since you still hadn't received them- try and drop in politely that you were planning on phoning the KC to see what the hold up is since you have the reg no's of the Sire and Dam.  Did she use an outside stud dog on the bitch or one of her own?  Contacting the owner of the Stud dog might help??  Also in all honesty £500 is not really that much to pay for a rottie (providing you get the kc papers) but I've never heard of paying to get breeding rights- as was said before either the bitch has endorsements on her kc reg which can be lifted (by the breeder) or she doesn't (giving the breeder no control over what happens to the bitch).  If you breeed this bitch without her being kc reg (it doesn't matter that the breeder says she is- you need it on paper from the kc) whether the stud dog you use is reg or not would not make any difference- you couldn't register the puppies and so there is no way you could charge any sort of money for the pups- just your typical £100 each admag pups:-(  You shouldn't have paid that much for one either if not reg:-(  If I was you I'd try the kc yourself to see what could be done- after contacting the breeder and the owner of the stud dog.  If all else fails you could return the pup and get your money back:-(

Thanks Stacey for the info.

I phoned the breeder last night and she said "She has filled out the papers but still hasn't sent them to KC (5 weeks now). She promised me she would send them in the morning (Today). As i have no rights really except i suppose "Brought puppy as KC Registered" I will just have to wait and see if she does it or not..Fingers crossed and keep getting on to them. Just a bit annoyed that as my puppies owner I have no rights to her registration!!

She also said it doesn't matter when the puppy is registered as long as it is. Is this true as i thought all litters had to be registered after birth once their health was check out by a vet? But i am a newbie to this so any info would be appreciated..

It can be registered as a single dog but it costs a good deal more, you do have a verbal contract that the trading standards may take up for you should the need arise.

Would be inclined to phone to day to remind her, and tomorrow and so on, if it is supposed to have been sent then give it a week and check with the KC that it has been received.
- By Smurf598 [gb] Date 19.02.04 08:55 UTC
Ok will keep that in mind if she doesn't do it.

Going to phone KC today and see where i stand, but from what everyone is saying  it doesn't look good for the buyer.

Just got of the phone with KC.

The breeder is registered and the line of pedigree for my puppy is true with a few champions in there aswell.

They said give her a week and then ask again if she has posted the registration forms.

Very nice lady at KC, she talked me through the whole process.

So I will phone the breeder again in a week and then KC to check.

Hi, Just picking up on a couple of your points,  the litter can be registered at any time within a year at the regular cost, or can be registered after that at £60 per pup.  And there is no Vet. check before the pups are registered, it is simply a sform to complete and send.  Also, if you have a receipt or anything stating the additional £100 was for breding rights, you would have an excellent case in small claims,  as it is perfectly reasonable to assume that breeding rights includes your right to be able to KC register subsequent pups, and implicict in this is that the dam is registered.

Glad you got a helpful lady on the phone from the kc:-)  Did you by any chance get her name as it would be good if you could get her next time (should there need to be one)- she obviously did all she could for you;-)  Also if the breeder 'still hasn't got round to it' next time you phone her- ask if you can pick the papers up yourself and you'll send them etc.  Again hope you get it sorted.

can anyone help me find out how to get a duplicate registration form for my bull terrier bitch as the original has been destroyed accidently the breeder i bought her from has moved [it was three years ago] and i dont havea copy of her registration number
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 23.02.04 21:55 UTC
Can you remember your dogs name and her parents?  Did you have a pedigree?  If so you can contact the KC with these details.  GOod luck in finding out the details
- By Brainless [gb] Date 24.02.04 00:27 UTC
The registered owner can apply for a duplicate registration document at any time.  All you nneed to know is the dogs registered name or registration number.

I am assuminf you did trandter the ownership over to ypurself when you bought the dog?  If not then thge owner as registered wtih the Kennel Club would have to apply, and then you would need to have them sign the new registration and transfer it over to your name.  It is a bit like the DVLC and Cars/
