Blues are defined as highly undesirable in the KC Standard, so you won't find any reputable breeders. Why would any one want such colours in a breed which has such a range of lovely acceptable colours?

I think that's a bit of a sweeping statement. Not all people who have the 'wrong' colour  are bad breeders. When looking for any puppy you should check that the relevant health checks have been carried out on the parents.

OK. People who deliberately breed for non-standard colours are not doing so with the best interests of the breed at heart.

The same sweeping statement. Are you saying that all those who bred brindle basenjis did not do so with the best interests of the breed at heart and all the other breeds that have had new colours recognised recently?
Just because it's not something you'd do doesn't mean that those who do do it are doing it badly? There are just as many poor breeders of 'norma' coloured breeds as there are those who breed solely for money.

You're obviously spoiling for a fight Poodle babe & I can't be bothered. I've never rated colour as a top priority, so can't understand why people go actively seeking (or breeding) something unacceptable when there are far more important things to consider.
"All the new breeds which have had new colours recognised recently" Bit sweeping eh? Have I missed something?
The Basenji case isn't the same at all - and that was quite a while ago.

unfortunately you are right about the gsd breed standard anwen, i have a gsd and have had show gsd's in the past, the kc do define the appropriate colours and blue's etc are not desiarable in the show scene, however my personal opinion is if you are not going to show then so be it, get what you want as long as all the relevant health checks are done

Think that is the crux of the matter Sam, when will we get someone posting 'Wanted well bred GSD, parents must be health tested and have good conformation, blue would be nice but a secondary consideration.'

Think most people would be happy with that, trouble is, if there is to be a requests for blue, & did I also see Liver, then we all know what will happen, people in breeding dogs for money and only for money, will start to breed for the colours that there is a demand for, regardless of how poor the parent dogs may be, as long as they will produce the golden egg they will be breed from, when that stops they will probably not even be given the cursory kindness of being put to sleep but either shot or turned out to fend for themselves.

Thank you Jackie. Bit difficult to produce non-standard colours in my breed, but I have produced the occasional mismark, which I suppose I could have sold as "rare", but they went as pets at a reduced price, which IMO is the responsible way of dealing with pups which don't conform to the standard.

I'm not spoiling for a fight you're just generalising too much. I also suggest you re-read my post as you have misquoted me.
Breeding for a non-standard colour doesn't automatically make them bad breeders.
With regards to the Basenji that is a very important point. You stated that people who breed ther wrong colours do so without the best interests of the breed at heart. This means you feel that everyone who bred a brindle Basenji did so for the wrong reasons.

The thing with the Basenji was different, the colour being recognised in it's country of origin.

I was not replying to you I was talking to Sam, of course, missmarks and incorrect colour is produced by all breeder from time to time, we are talking of delibertly breedig for a colour which I am sure you must realise. This is not generalising it is saying that if encouraged the (do it for money) breeder will pick it up and try to fullfil the demand. If you have a problem with that OK but it is not generalising.

Guest if you would like to contact me (click on my user name)  I can help you find a 'reputable' breeder who has quality blues from lines that are all hip scored and of impeccable temperaments.  There are a lot of people out there breeding purely for the colour 'Blue' and in particular 'Solid Blue' and in doing so are producing dogs with terrible hip dysplacia, and other health problems associated with the German Shepherd.
