I have just had to kennel two of my dogs for a period of two weeks, something I have never done before and something I will NEVER do again. One of them has come back with severe staining to the feet and hocks. It is a very dark rusty brown colour and when I looked at the root of the nail (where it exits the foot) and in between the toes, it is very very dark reddy brown. Can any one tell me what has caused it and what I can do to help remove it. I have been to the vets and they said it will go in time !!!! Also she has calluses on her hocks, with fluid behind it and again severe staining, the vet said to use Sudacrem on the hocks to help the calluses. I am beside myself and would be greatful for any help you can give me.
Many Thanks,
Beagle Barmy.

The staining is probably caused by saliva. Your dog has probably beem licking at these areas constantly. Hopefully now he is home and comfortable he will stop licking and the staining will clear up. Apparently sodium bicarbonate is good for removing the stains but I would make sure there are no sores first.
