Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Yorkies having trouble mating, help!

Hi everyone,
I have read several posting searching for my answer but have not found any. I have 2 Yorkies, the stud is 7 years old and the bitch is 1 year and a half old. From all my yorkie books, it states that mating should begin at the second season, which is where she is at this time. My boy dog has attempted several times and she has stood and place and moved her tail, however he has not been able to get it in. I know this is really graphic, but several other breeders have advised me to help "it" in. Is this normal? If so, do you have any advice on how I can do this, or should I just let nature take it's course. It is now day 11, and I'm not sure what to do. Should I seperate them for a day or two? Please let me know.

Thanks for your help in advance.

IMO your stud is too old for the first time of use, have you had his sperm tested to check he is fertile. And to try to use too virgins is not a good idea you could well end up with 2 injured dogs. Forget this season and find an experienced dog for the next one and then you will have the help of the studs handler who will supervise the mating for you.
