Please can I have your prayers and good thoughts for one of my Staffs - 6mth old Marmaduke, who as we speak, desparately ill. He just suddenly stopped eating the end of last week, vomiting continuously and unable to move out of his cage and we rushed him to the vet
I'm devastated by what's happened and the vet cannot work out what, yet, is wrong with him. He's been at the vet's now since Sunday and is constantly attached to two drips, has been x-rayed, operated on, bloods and faeces samples taken and tested and still no idea of why he is so poorly.
He's still trying to vomit continuously apparently and is still unable to move. The x-rays are clear, the operation revealed nothing in his gut, bowel etc and there is no sign of poisoning and he's not responding to treatment. He's been dosed up with pain killers so at least is not in as much discomfort now.
My poor baby is so ill and there is nothing I can do.
The vet honestly believes there maybe some hope for him because although he hasn't made any improvements, he hasn't got any worse, if you see what I mean. But we have been made aware we could lose him.
His litter brother and mother are fit and well but obviously we're paranoid now that they may develop symptons so I'm watching them like a hawk.
Please send prayers for him so that he can come home to us very soon.
Thank you...

Juliet,
I'm not religious but I have a few people in the afterlife who do me a few favours now and then. I've asked them to keep an eye on Marmaduke. Try to to worry - no worsening is good. Go out and buy some nice chicken breasts for when he comes home.

Thinking of Marmaduke and Sam, and their frantic family. Hope all is well soon. :)
Thank you all for your lovely words...made me get a bit weepy, sorry...
A little update..apparently Marmaduke raised his head and pricked his ears this afternoon...hurray! The vet says this is a vast improvement from this morning.
He looks like an RSPCA case now, he has lost so much weight...all his ribs and his spine show but the vet assures us that given time and lots and lots of TLC and good food, that will all come right again.
GSDSam, so sorry to hear your in a similar boat...is yours at the vet or at home? It's heartrending, isn't it?

i know how u must be feeling, my little 7 month old was very poorly a couple of weeks ago after consuming an entire bottle of painkillers. she was in the vets for over 28 hours and constantly on a drip. luckily she pulled through and has no permanent damage. i felt so awful, knowing it was my fault and should have ensured she couldn't get hold of the drugs.
it must be terrible for u though, with not knowing what is wrong. but as the vet said, at least he isn't getting worse, which is a good sign. i hope he does as well as my little girl

Thinking about you and your family and especially Marmaduke the sick puppy. By the sound of things he is in good hands and may well recover fully, I truly hope he does. Talk to him if you have access to him, your voice will soothe. I pray he recovers and is back home soon

Just to let you all know, Marmaduke has now taken a turn for the worse and is going downhill. The vet is now pumping him full of steroids to try to stop the spread of the pathogen that is now running riot through him.
If there is no improvement this afternoon then we have made the decision to end his suffering but we're just desparate to give him this one last chance at fighting back.
My heart is breaking at the thought of giving the go-ahead to have him PTS. Poor little mite, he's only 6 mths old, it must be terrifying for him.
Thank you all for your words of kindness and sympathy...it really has meant so much.
I will keep you all updated.

Juliet,
I'm so sorry :( Keep hoping for a miracle.
Joe
Well, somehow, the little mite is still hanging in there...no-one knows how and is not quite so distressed now apparently so if he's still fighting, then so will we.
We will review his situation again in the morning and can only hope that his fighting spirit remains.
All your prayers must be doing something for the little boy. This afternoon was just terrible, waiting to hear and then psyching ourselves up to have to make a hideous descision.
I think I might have a couple of glasses of vino and raise my glass to the little fighter...

He obviously wants to stick around. The longer he's hanging on in there the better. Resilient little beggar isn't he. Have several glassess of vino. Nothing like a pup licking your face when you've got a hangover. Keeping everything crossed.
Joe :)

He sounds like a little star. I'll be thinking of you both.

Well my little furbaby must have heard all of those good wishes - just spoken to vet yet again and he has confirmed that Marmaduke has managed to take a tiny amount of water himself and kept it down (which he hasn't been able to do for a week) which is a brilliant sign. He's still not moving yet but did manage to rip out one of his drips (he has 3 now!) which is also apparently a brilliant sign.
My little boy might have just "turned the corner".
We've been told not to get too excited but things are looking more positive now...I can't help but smile and it certainly makes a change from sobbing continuously! :-)
Thank you one and all for all your kind words...has truly meant so much...

Thats great news, will keep everything crossed that the recovery goes from strength to strength :O)

Only just read this, hope everything turns out OK, one tough cookie! Has you vet any idea what's wrong with him yet?
Take care and I'm thinking of you all.
