I know you people may think I'm stupid for asking this question, but I don't have near as much knowledge about dogs as most of you.I kinda feel like an idiot for asking this, but what is a clicker?I keep seeing it on here and its got me very curious. Thanx,Zoey
No, we don't think you're stupid, Zoey! No question is stupid if you don't know the answer!
A clicker is a little plastic box, smaller than a matchbox, which, when pressed on the top, makes a noise similar (but louder) to the 'click' of a retractable biro.
That's probably not a very good explanation though ... :)

I understand what you're talking about Jeangenie.I never could figure out what it was,but from hearing people talk,I think I may get one to try to stop this dog from barking all the time.I'll try anything as he's driving me crazy. Thanks,Zoey
You'll need to get a book to teach you the principles behind the system first. It is certainly a good way of teaching an owner to be clearer in their communication with their dog, making it easier for the dog to understand. Because at first no words are used, the owner doesn't fall into the common trap of believing that the dog understands the meaning of 'sit' etc - human words are, to a dog, as meaningless as a dog's bark is to us!
Good luck with it - I know many people have had a lot of success with it. :)

It works well and quickly, but, it is not used to correct a bad behaviour, but to reward a correct behaviour. So as Jeangenie has said, buy a book as well or go to a trainer that will help you plan the way to stop your dog barking when you don't require it.
