Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / buying whole litter of pups (locked)
- By Guest [fr] Date 17.02.04 17:29 UTC
I rang an advert I seen in the paper, it said the man would buy whole litters of puppies I dont really want to do this as im not sure if its legal but im tempted because i have 6 mongrel pups which were the result of an accident and he is offering a fairly good price, noone else would likely want to buy the pups. the man says its all legal and aboveboard is he telling the truth? he says all my pups will be wormed looked at by the vet and sold to nice homes. what should i do?
- By musiclife [gb] Date 17.02.04 17:31 UTC
DONT DO IT.
no amount of money is worth the unhappiness of a litter of pups, ask your self why he wants all of them. he cannot possibly train them all and care for them all, therefore he must be selling them on afterwards- do not do this, guest.
- By SaraN [gb] Date 17.02.04 17:37 UTC
Again DONT DO IT Just give it time and if you really cant find homes for them take them to a shelter and they will all get nice homes from there I am sure. I beg you don't sell them to this bloke. You never know what he will do to your dogs babies and don't give them away just for the money (im sure that's not important to you :) ) Go to:
http://www.dogpages.org.uk/
If you need to find a shelter near you.

You would be doing your puppies a favour if you were to give them over to the Blue Cross, or some other Dog Rescue Service.   They will ensure that your puppies go to carefully vetted-homes.

The person who advertises for whole litters is a puppy wholesaler - he has no interest in the welfare of your puppies - they will be slung in a van, along with other litters of puppies, and distributed to petshops who might feed and water your puppies before selling them to anyone off the street who just happens to think that today he might fancy a puppy - he could take it home, his partner or wife not want it - and the poor thing could be booted out on the street.   Is this what you want from puppies you have cared for?

You won't make any money from giving your puppies over to Rescue, but you will at least know that as far as possible, the puppies are going to good homes.

Read the link to Hope.UK - it will give you an idea of puppy wholesalers/farmers.

Are you planning on having your bitch spayed now?   It would be for the best.

Regards
Margot

Don't do it. He is only after making money out of your pups, and will spend as little as possible (in terms of both money and time) as he possibly can. Contact a rescue centre instead. Save them from a possibly evil fate.
- By corso girl [gb] Date 17.02.04 18:15 UTC
Dont let this man buy your pups if you care for them he could be wanting them for any for any number of reasons and all of them bad
most of the time they will sell them to just any one they might be for training dogs(fighting)they throw them to the dogs to kill/selling for testing/selling to pet shops/please dont do it or does the money mean more???
- By Anwen [gb] Date 17.02.04 18:25 UTC
If you care at all about the future of these puppies, you won't consider doing this.
The possibilities of where these puppies might end up doesn't bear contemplating.
- By Bengidog [gb] Date 17.02.04 20:05 UTC
Please don't do it.  The fate of the pups if you do doesn't bear thinking about.

Put it this way - the only reason he is doing this is to make money, in other words to sell them for a higher price than he paid for them.  Just ask yourself how he can do this - and worming, vet visits and nice homes won't come into the answer!

Either try to rehome the pups yourself to nice homes or find a rescue who will take them.  If you send me a message, I can put you in touch with a number of good small rescues who will ensure that the pups get good homes.

I have heard reports of dealers wanting dogs ideally pups for the fur trade. Dog and for that matter cat skins are fashionable at the moment. The fur trade is coming back with a vengence! Suppose that is the fate of these pups? Selling a whole litter like this is not good for the puppies and if they don't end up as part of a fashion accessorie then it could be into a situation as described above.

We often have ads in my local paper that say they will buy unwanted puppies and kittens :(
But they only list a mobile number :( :(
- By Lindsay Date 18.02.04 08:42 UTC
Please don't let this person have your pups - as has already been said, he may just sell them on, or he may even use them as bait for fighting dogs .... anything could happen to them! :(

Please pass them to a reputable shelter.

My friend took on a  pregnant bitch a few years ago, and  a good shelter looked after her and the pups until she could go back to my friend. Who knows what mught have happened otherwise.

Are you seriously saying you're incapable of worming these puppies yourself? Do as all the others have said to find your babies a home and if you cant have your bitch speyed to avoid this happening again, find her a loving home too. I do hope this is not a serious post.

I run a rescue on the Lincs Notts border.  I will rescue these pups if you can get them to us or at least some of the way?  I WON'T buy them but I will worm and microchip them and give them a lifetime of aftercare.  Please don't sell them like that.

Well, I hope the Guest has nightmares for many years to come thinking of the possible fate of his/her puppies.  The Guest has really no idea if the man has a petshop.  He could be buying them for anything - dog fight baiting included.  Sorry, Guest, don't care how much you need money - would you sell your children in the same way?  As the answer will be obviously 'no', why do the same with your dogs.  If the answer is, 'dogs don't matter', please hand your bitch over to a good rescue now.  She will have a much better life and think of the money you will save by not having to feed her!

Sorry (not to Guest), but I'm really disgusted!

How very, very depressing. Pooor puppies :(

God people make me mad.  I would have gone and fetched them if necessary.  can't believe money is more important to these greedy, selfish monsters.
Last summer i got a call from a woman in Lincolnshire asking if i would rescue 7 GSD pups. Of course i said yes, i specialise in the breed.  Then she tells me they were 6 months old! She'd been trying to sell them for £200.  No papers for the parents, so no health tests and she couldn't understand why she'd only sold one!  I said I'd have to arrange with another person to split them up as I couldn't fit that many in of that size.  She also got a lecture about the social skills and temperaments of the dogs who had been living in the garden since birth.
I arranged with another GSD rescue to take half and he rang the woman up and she then told him she wanted £100 a puppy!!  I rang myself and "explained" to her the point of rescue and told her that I'd pay her £100 and bill her for the costs of 7 lots of microchipping, wormers, food, volunteers expenses, vaccinations and neutering and that basically she still then owed me £100 per puppy.  She didn't want to know and we never got the dogs.  About 4 months later I was asked to rescue a GSD bitch that was living loose in a garden.  yes it was one of hers, sold on a month after we had dealt with her.  The poor owner had taken the dog home and let it off the lead in its new garden and never caught it again.  For 3 months they hadn't been able to get near it.  It took me over 3 hours to catch her and i got a bite on my leg in the process.  After 8 weeks of rehab, she was still totally mental poor dog and we put her to sleep.
Anyone considering indiscriminate breeding............... take note.

obviously money was the key player here , if anyone ever has to rehome a dog/pup never give them to a dealer or pass them on to the pound/dog warden as the pound can and will  pts at anytime , give them to a shelter
:( so many loving pets in the pound right now and not enough homes its so sad , whole litters of pups :( quite often pure bred .
Although i do suspect this to be a troll , why ask advice if money was the main topic . never mind :)

What a complete piece of scum

I'm sorry, this kind of thing just makes me so angry.

I dread to think what is going to happen to those pups now, and can only hope that they are lucky and DO find good homes.

And Guest, if all that matters to you is money, then I really do pity you.
- By liberty Date 19.02.04 01:07 UTC
I do hope the Guest comes back and reads all the posts :(
I feel so very sorry for the poor pups.
