Just entered my dog for his first show (at the end of the month). It's an Open show and he's only 7 months old so God knows how it'll end up!

He passed his Puppy Foundation course before Xmas and is now onto the Bronze award so I'm hoping the socialisation with other dogs (both big and small) will get him used to other dogs close by (he was a little star on Sat at the class and sat, lay down, waited then came to me without me having to say a word - and we'd never done that before as I always talk to him). He then came to me (with my back turned) running past about 15 other dogs in the room. I was sooo proud of him!!

Wish I was going to Crufts but will be glued to the television. Good luck everybody that has entered their dogs!

Hi, are we talking showing or obedience, if showing don't worry no one expects a puppy to be perfect or even reasonable, have you been to ringcraft?

It's Showing rather than obedience. There aren't any Ringcraft classes close to where I live (I've checked with the Kennel Club) so went to the puppy foundation class nearby instead. The lady who does it knows I'm hoping to show so I've avoided automatic sit and am learning stand and wait instead. It's a fun class and most people are in the same position with their dogs so we are all learning together (and I've not laughed as much for ages!!). :)

Well if you can I would go to a few shows to see how people show dogs in general and your breed in paticular, don't be afraid to ask questions if you are unsure about something, when the person has finnished showing is best or whilst they are waiting to go in. In most cases you will find people will be helpfull showing you no their dogs how to do things and some may even let you try and correct you. Just explain you want to show but there is not ringcraft near you.
