I'm used to people telling me my red shiba inu is "like a fox" but a lady in Peterhead told me I owned a Japanese Husky. When I tried to correct her (it's a Japanese Shiba Inu) she wasn't convinced. "Nah, it's definately one of those Japanese huskies - they're dead rare".
OK, there are not many of them north of the border but I wouldn't classify them as rare!!
As for the fox part - since when did foxes have curly tails!! Maybe I should say iti's a husky / fox cross and see what their response is like! :)

Well, I suppose they have Mount Fiji (but I somehow don't think this particular lady was familar with Japanese places!). ;)
Giving her the benefit of the doubt, there is the Japansese Tosa which IS pretty rare in the UK but is much bigger than my little baby (he's only 7 months old so just knee high!).
Funny thing is, I have a Japanese penfriend and she had a dachshund as they seemingly like Western dogs more than their own breeds (or maybe they know what utter headcases Shiba's can be!!)

It's the colour and their faces that remind people of foxes.

Yes, but not Artic Spitz they are among several Spitz breeds that come from the southern hemisphere, the Japanese Spitz and Akita probable the best known. To me anyway the term husky suggests sled dogs, although they may well have been imported from further north may years before even I was born.
