I have just been on a few advertising sites  not looking for dogs but eneded up looking on there anyway. The reasons people give for selling there dogs.14 weeks old new job forces sale,or great dane  6 mths old disabled owner can no longer cope.I mean why would you even bother getting one in the first place  i just cant believe that people sell them or get them with absolutely no thinking in advance. And where are the people that they bought them from cant they at least offer them back to the breeder.I must say i would die if i saw one of my dogs advertised on the net.Well one of the puppies i had bred. But i suppose thats life got it off my chest at least.

Now i dont mean this horrible, but why the hell does a disabled person get a great dane. Before anyone jumps down my throat about disabled people i just mean they are big dogs i know nothing about them but i imagine they need a lot of care.Just seems absolutely terrible to me to have a dog for 6 mths then just decide you cant cope.At the minute i have a chihuahua bitch staying with me she was only supposed to stay till she had a new home to go to.She found a new homeabout 2 yrs ago but she does tend to wee everywhere she is 9 now.I told the people who took her that she was definately not a clean dog and was just trying to rehome her for a friend.she was returned the next dayBut i didnt have the heart to try and place her anywhere again .Just seems unfair so she lives here with me and my lot and i just follow her with the mop.But 2 yrs of weeing ,5 kids, too many animals too mention and 8 dogs i found a way to cope.

I would stop reading them - they just make you p****d off !
"Due to new babys arrival dog needs rehoming" ( did they not realise they would possibly have children)
Its the old dogs that make me angry when people rehome them when they are elderly - I think it would be just like shoving your nan or grandad out the door and not caring .
Not everyone thinks like us though - many people think "Its only a dog" :(

I don't read them. If I read them I might beleive them, and if I believed them I would despair at the stupidity of the human race.

When I got Bradley I did not realise Luis would walk out.  Its tough for him being left longer but I could never get rid of him Ive already lost enough.

Emma. Now listen to me on this you LOVE Bradley and do your best for him; peoples circumstances change and nothing on heaven on earth can alter the fact that things/relationships/lives change.

Bradley is HAPPY and you deserve to be too. First step STOP worrying :)

Karen :)

I was in the same position as you Emma, as a family we had waited ten years to get our first dog (suitable house, garden, time, etc) and within 5 months of having a pup, my ex did a runner!  Initially I panicked and thought the pup would have to go, but soon realised I had the better deal and the pup was a much better companion than husband had ever been.

I didn't work when we had our puppy but I soon had to go out to work as mine was the only income supporting three children so there had to be some compromises.  We put our heart and soul into training him.  Infact it turned out the be the best thing ever for my then 14yr old and he ended up training a brilliant gundog.

It can be done.

hi, as i am disabled myself as some of you know, i have an artificial leg below knee.
before my rta i had a gsd and a labrador. prior to my rta i kept with all types of dogs in the family over the years and have now a bc and a gsd pup.
my disability does not hinder me having a gsd [big dog], it is the way all my dogs get trained to walk at the heel and recall that helps.
if i thought that my disability would hinder me having a dog i would never have 1.
some disabled folk i know, bring a dog thinking oh well so what if i am disabled, this is the wrong attitude.
if i was disabled and did not have a dog i would never consider getting a big dog as i would think i couldnt handle it, it is only with years of experience handling a dog and disability that i can cope.
i do feel very sad for those dog owners though that end up having to give up their pets because of accidents leading to disability, or a family break up and financial problems,
sam
