Hi, It's me again! I have a 9.5 mth old male staff, and recently he seems to be getting dandruff? We have not given him a bath since about Spet/Nov last year, and he is groomed a couple of times a month, but in the last week he looks like he is getting dandruff...should I be concerned/is there something I can do about it?
I appreciate any advice. Thanks

Hopefully it is not "walking dandruff" which is cheyletellia and can be caught by humans. The vet can tell. Otherwise add 1000mg Fish Body oils to your dog's daily diet along with 400 iu of Vitamin E this will provide the essential fatty acids and Omega 3s that can be lacking in dog food.

I've been giving Omega 3 oil to my black Lab pup and his coat shines like a mirror :)

Even adding mackeral in oil can help with a nice shiny coat ?

My bitch suffers with this. I'm not sure at the moment whether it is her hormones but my old staff bitch Lara had this but she had a skin complaint which is apparently quite common in staffs. Sorry can't remember what it is called. Lara's was worse when we feed her scraps from the table but was not so bad when she just stuck with her normal dry food. My male gets this dandruff-looking stuff when he is shedding his coat, between this white stuff and his hair, it's driving me nuts.
Sorry can't be anymore help.

SupCake...this makes sense as he was castrated recently and the dandruff lookalike has only just started since then. He seems to be ok this week..so good news ;-)
Poor 'ol Molly though! hope everything works out ok for her.

thanks im sure it will, will let u all no how we get on,she still aint eating alot but somehow still finds energy to have her mad 5 minutes then sleeps for the rest of the day x x
a few years ago my dog had dandruff i checked her coat for fleas ect and as expected nothing! when i went through her coat with a nit comb I found lice!! even on a dark coloured dog i couldnt sere them in the coat only on the comb :)
they are easily treated and were gone by the next day but it was a shock especially seeing the bitch was frontlined!

my staff also had this after loads of money being spent trying to find out what it was as all the tests came out negative. It was put down to a hormonal problem. And the vet himself said the treatment would be a little pricey and in his own words told me to nip to tescos and buy some evening primrose oil capsules and look on the back and buy the ones with the highest GLA in the ingredients. And that would work the same and i must say it took a few weeks to work but now he has absolutely perfect skin i give him one a day and never looked back since. But you do have to find the ones with the highest GLA ingredient
