Ok this might sound really stupid but here goes does anyone know of a way to deter frogs from your garden? I am petrified of them and with spring approaching it was just a thought that turned into a nightmare. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Frogs are getting very rare and need all the help them can get, if they reckon your garden is good you should really grit you teeth and stay on the patio :) If its toads you've got (they squeak, frogs croak) thats a different matter but they really are the gardeners friend eating loads of slugs etc learn to love them if you can.

I had about 200 of the lickle green croakie thingies in my old front garden - it was very damp and green with lots of hedgerow and plants. Then I sold the house and the woman flattened the front and turned it into a tarmac drive

Why not give them a pond so they can have more little froggies since they fancy ur garden....I no I would, and don't they eat masquito's? If so they would be doing a favor in return :)
I just love frogs there cute...I want a red eye tree frog for a tatty :)

Hi Michelle, get yourself a cat ,i know that frogs are supposed to be declining .....not in our garden they are not ,the cats catch them and then pass them on to the dog ,who then flings them all over the place i used to be terrified of them but i have now turned into this manic frog catcher ,scooping them up in anything i can get my hands on ,i did have a bit of a nightmare last summer ,we had friends for dinner ,we were sat eating dinner when the cat shot through the cat flap with frog dangling from his mouth ,dropped it dog took over ,then second cat joined in (one of our dinner guests was on the chair at this point ,i went screaming at all the animals trying to retrieve the frog ......found HUUUUUUGE frog ,scooped it into a flower pot (all i could find) and Flung it back into the pond ...John had forgotten to tell me he had put pond net back across pond .......frog rebounded back into the kitchen where all three animals lept onto it ,by now my friend was screaming ...silently ....trust me she had been screaming through out the whole ordeal ,and had by now lost her voice ,,found the frog again ,put it this time into the pond (under the net ),.....when i turned back to see all of these horrified faces ......i just could not stop laughing (that was my excuse ) in fact i was completley hysterical ,and there was this awful silence and then they all fell about laughing too ,even my friend still on the chair (she even had her coffee sitting on the back of the chair !!!!!after re reading this maybe a cat is not such a good idea ....good luck whatever ! Take care Sue & Lola xx

twice last summer i came down in the morning to find a frog sitting in my dogs water bowl, i have a pond in my garden, and my cat was going out during the night to catch them, hubby wasnt pleased when i got him up to remove them. i will be locking the cat flap this summer.
:-D :-D :-D @ Sue. Thanks for that, I'm sat here laughing like mad and Sam has just come in to find out what's going on! Feel sorry for the frog but very funny. My eldest cat also has a penchant for frogs, when she had kittens a couple of years ago she came into the lounge with one in her mouth for the kittens to play with, there were legs sticking out from each side of her mouth. Looked awful (managed to rescue it though and there wasn't so much as a scratch on it). Haven't seen any frogs around just lately ......

The only advice I can give is to make sure your garden is as dry as possible.
If you have wet grass that holds moisture then dig a huge hole and fill it will chips re turf over it and the excess water will go down there and keep the area dry.
I have to say I share your fear along with a few others.
Last night a huge moth flew at me and I run that fast I skipped on my wooden floor and fell so hard I thought I had nearly killed myself ;-) I took about 2-3 inches of skin off my arms and oneof my knees as my feet went one way and I another.
There was a frog in my garden lasy year and I could not sleep for days as I got myself in such a state.
I know people think these fears are daft, and I do it but when you have them it is awful..

mmmmmm
I wouldnt advise the cat idea........ we had cats, and frogs, and one summer our cats (all five of them) appointed themselves Frog Murder Squad....... if you think a live frog is scary, try HALF a dead one, (severed across the abdomen) stuck to the carpet, with its front legs in the air and mouth gaping open.......
Also, they might croak normally, when happy lil frogs, but you put one in a cats mouth, or step on one.........a frightened frog SCREAMS like a bizarre thing....dont do it!
My answer, move to somewhere where there are no frogs!

Michelle,
I have the same dislike of frogs as you!! thought I was alone on this one. When I was about 6 or 7 we went camping as a family and my sister and I being the two oldest, had our own tent,we came back one night to find it totally inhabited by dozens of frogs jumping everywhere yuk, totally freaked me out.
Since then I have not been able to overcome my 'fear' of them, but one thing I found seemed to work in our garden,as our neighbours have ponds which encourages frogs, was to buy a huge rubber snake! So far Spice our border collie has left it alone, hopefully she won't chew it up! Hubby reckons she's more likely to bring me a gift of a frog one day

Maybe we should both go for hypnosis to overcome this fear? :D because no matter how irrational it seems to others I would cross a road or re-walk a route rather than pass a frog infested pond! Plus all ?friends and relatives seem to delight in buying me anything frog orientated, cards, ornaments, soaps etc.

I didn't know frogs could scream til last spring when we filled in our pond. (we have young children)
We lifted up a rock at the edge of the pond, underneath was what seemd like hundreds of frogs SCREAMING and dashing off in different directions!

It frightened the life out of us all - it was such a horrible noise! I wasn't scared of frogs til then!

Put a sign outside saying 'French Restaurant opening soon ! ' :)
Hi everyone, thanks for the replies. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this phobia(not that i wish it on anyone else) because if anyone else is like me I fell for them. I know they are good for your garden etc but I really am terrified of them. I have got no grass at all in the garden and i try to keep it as dry as possible. I suppose it doesn't help matters that when Jazz sees them he thinks its playtime and my god they squeel (sp?). I think i am going to have to get some professional help with this.
