Hi.
My GSP pup is still mouthing (we have tried everything to stop it but she hasn't got the message yet) and she had her first birthday yesterday. I read some feedback in a previous post which said that they go through a bit more of this behaviour when they reach this age and it certainly seems to have become more obvious recently, is this common, do some dogs always greet you by mouthing?
Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Our GSD does the same thing and no amount of telling off or pushing off will discourage him, or he starts on your ankles if it gets too much like trouble on your hands/wrists. So if you find a fix let us know :D

Ignore him completely. Dont look at him, dont respond in any manner just hold your hands behind your back and keep turning away from him. My Boxer used to hang off my sleeves and that was the only thing that stopped him. Make yourself boring and he'll give up. May take some time but worth it in the long run.
I tried ignoring mine when they did it and it didn't work. Infact my 13mth male will still do it when he's excited and he gets a very stern "No or No Biting", he knows exactly what it means and is just trying it on and over excited as well which we try to calm down at the same time. Only when he's calmed down and stopped the mouthing will I speak to him nicely or give him praise or say hello.
My 3 yr old bitch did it for a while but then suddenly stopped after us continually telling her "No or No Biting", think she just got fed up of getting no praise for mouthing.
I agree some behaviours are best ignored but mouthing/biting/nipping I will never ignore as I find a stern No does the trick - eventually ;-)
