Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Won't "toilet" at shows?
- By jancx [gb] Date 15.02.04 10:34 UTC
Hi,
Yesterday we went to the National Working & Pastoral Breed Open show at Coventry, we left home at 7:30am and despite numerous walks on all different surfaces throughout the day Leo (9mths) wouldn't wee or poo. By the time it came to the Working Puppy Group line up (at 5pm)  he was desperate and did the most enormous lake in the ring
I know it's all been done before but it was quite embarrassing (I thought he was never going to stop). :D

Does anyone have any tips on pursuading a pup to toilet? It's not as if he has one particular spot at home he uses, but will happily go anywhere.

Thanks
Jan :)

Do you use a command, all my dogs have been taught to "go" on command (they are allowed to do it at other times aswell!!!)

Maybe his just abit shy of going???

Where do you take him for walks? Does he 'go' easily enough when out? My young dog wouldn't do anything outside the garden for months. Now that he's 'growing up' ;) he'll happily do it anywhere. Saying that his grandmother would only 'go' in areas that she knew. She didn't like going anywhere away from home - unless desparate. :)

He wees on the patio in the garden at home but will do it anywhere when we go for a walk - grass, pavement etc. Yesterday I tried walking him on a variety of surfaces but to no avail. I do use a particular word to encourage both dogs to "go" (that's usually last thing at night before we go to bed) but it fell on deaf ears yesterday.
Leo's been to 6 shows and has never gone at any of them, always waiting until we got home.

Thanks
Jan

Just wondering if those "wee wee pads" would work??  or maybe you could make your own from newspapers ;) (I was told some show people do this  )  Just until pup realises its ok to 'go' when somewhere new.
