If there was any doubt at all of whether being a service dog was for Sheena
or not last night proved that it is. When my husband got home from work he
was all excited because his boss wanted to see her. Derek works at an
autowreckers. Anyway they own two huge rottwielers. One is 120 pounds and
only 11 months. He is a huge baby and both are super friendly. I carried
Sheena is and never let her out of my arms but she didn't show one ounce of
caring. She sniffed them and when the pup sniffed her to vigorously she
reached out to grab his nose. Not in a mean way just in a way to mean
bugger off. He sat down and whined which got all the men laughing. Her is
tiny Sheena and a big rotwieler is whining and at her mercy. Then while
this was going on some of the guys drove in a demolition car that was really
loud. Sheena turned her head looked at it and yawned. She didn't car. I
watched her for any sign of nervousness fear or anything and if I saw it we
would leave immediately. She didn't show anything except curiosity and
didn't fight me carrying her at all.
Then we had to go to Lethbridge to get a new phone and some work boots for
Derek. She first we put Sheena's collar and bandana on her and went to
Canadian Tire first. We went in and not a peep from Sheena. She spent the
time kissing and sniffing babies, kids and adults. Everyone loved her.
Then she walked from the exit of the store at heel to the car. Her tail was
arched over her back and she was so happy and playful. Agian no sign at all
of the least bit of stress.
Walmart was the real test. The place was busy as normal but Sheena took it
all in stride. She was agian petted and loved by all sorts and seemed to
swell with the attention. She didn't once fight to be put down. She wasn't
nervous or anything. The real test was a lady had a crying baby. Sheena
stretched her head out and licked the childs hand. The baby giggled and the
mom said thank you so much. Sheena gave the baby another kiss and then we
were off. She was a huge hit. Not one accident either basically because I
carried her but also when I took her to the green strip outside and told her
to hurry she went. I am so proud of her.
She slept all the way home and when I took the bandana off she was back to
being a bouncing puppy. She is amazing. Considering she is only 8 weeks old today I am completely amazed. I just had to tell you all this.
What a busy day for Sheena-Star ! What age do pups have their vaccinations in Canada ? It seems to vary over here depending on the vet - met a 10 week old pup today who was out for teeny walks after having all his shots, so Im curious.
Hi
I can tell you that here in Denmark, the pups get 3 shots - 1. when they are about 7-8 weeks old (mine was 7 weeks, and she was chipped at the same time). 2. When they are 12 weeks old, and finally 3. when they are 16 weeks old.
I got Luna when she was 8½ weeks old. We are not allowed to take puppies from their mother before they are at least 8 weeks old.
So when I got her home, she was out right away and saying hello too all the other dogs! She is 10 months old now, and have never been sick - knock on wood!

Hi thanks for the heads up but I already thought of that before hand so we took her to see the vet that morning. She got a throrough check-up and I was told as long as I carry her everywhere and don't have her around strange dogs or other animals I should be find. The vet is totally involved. I don't do anything that might jepordize her health with out the vets go ahead and suggestions first. The dogs she was introduced to belong to my husbands boss and we know them well. So she was as safe there as she was here with other dog. Until she has had all her shots she will be carried everywhere. We just let her walk from the doors of the building to the car which was all cement and clean with new snow so I was not worried. Plus we hurried her so she never stopped to sniff anything. But thank you for your comments.
I was really curious you know, not finger wagging in any way :) it is a fine line between socialsising during the golden weeks and protecting pups from infections ( or so they tell me). When Morse arrived at 6 months hed only had 1 shot and our vet nurse was very firm about not going anywhere public ( dogs might have been there) until hed had a full course. As he developed a nasty kennel cough he couldnt have his vaccination until so many weeks after he finished the antibiotics and it was a very grim time having a large bouncy pup in a small garden, I can tell you :D I know you waited for ages to get Sheena and that you wouldnt do anything to risk her health. Whats next on her socialisation programme?
