I brought a tibetan mastiff bitch in years ago and she was tatooed, the makeing never faided and was a visable I.D if she every got lost as some small rescue centers do not have micro chip scanners
Dilita was tatooed in Spain and she's now 12 years old and it's still clear, even with a hairy dog like her.

Hi, I get all my dogs tattooed as well, it's a very good method of identification, I also microchip them all as well, because of the pet passport requirements, I've never had any problems with either method of i/d.
My dogs are microchipped but I was a bit unsure as I had heard that the chip can move under the skin, I read in the paper about a dog that was stollen and the thieves used a stanley knife to search for the chip in the dogs neck
Why would they do that????? surely, if they did that, then the dog would be worthless as scarred so not able to sell it (which is not what they want :( ) Lea :)
Better than having their ears cut off. OMG, doesn't bear thinking about. I have bitch who was tattooed before I got her. Still visible - if you look carefully at her hairy ears!
