I am a student in high school(US) and am a band teacher aid. Today while the younger band students were putting their instruments away, one stayed behind to ask myself and the band teacher if we wanted a puppy. I said no and so did the band teacher, but I asked what breed they were. He said that they were a mixed breed between a Chihuaua and a Basset hound! Both parents were mixed breeds as well! I immediately was horrified. I asked him how big both parents were and he said the mother was the Chihuaua mix and was the size of a normal Chi. The father was the size of a normal Basset. And the two were "accidentally" bred and the Chi bitch gave birth to these puppies! I couldn't help myself; I started agrueing about how horrible that breeding was and that the kid's family should be ashamed. If it really was an accident, the family could have at least taken the bitch for a morning-after jab and not had to worry about it! I asked the kid how the heck the two were allowed to get together and he said that they "watched them and the dad, his dog, was kept in his bedroom while the Chi bitch ran around the same house freely." I wanted to cry. I told the kid to be sure to tell his grandma not to allow this to happen again as his family was very, very lucky that the Chi bitch even survived. Appearently though, the mom and pups are perfectly fine and healthy. I just don't understand. If a family or individual has family dogs, they should be committed to them and make sure that the female is safe from the male, especially with such a size difference. After me telling the kid all of this, he didn't seem to understand. So I said, "Okay, think of it this way. Your Chihuaua girl is in heat and a big, huge Great Dane male gets to her and they mate. No matter the size, Bradley, they are going to breed. And guess what? If that Basset hound and been any bigger, you probably wouldn't have your girl any longer and the pups would have probably died as well." After that, he seemed to understand and said that he would tell his grandma. Maybe I saved a dog's life? Its just so amazing that people are so STUPID as to not realize the dangers they put their dogs in. I just will never understand. Do you all have any comments? I could sure go on.

Unfortunatly there are people around that do that.
I was talking to the fork lift driver at a building site we landscape.
He asked if I wanted a puppy (this is while holding Beano on the lead)
He has (think this is the right breeds it is 4 months ago)
A chiuaua x corgi and his brother had a, Jack Russel x sorry forgotten the cross, but was a 2 way cross. 2 different breeds to the mum, and the other one was slightly bigger.
Him and his brother mated them to pay for the bitch to be spayed (he was selling the pups at £50 each) and to 'see what they looked like'
This is deffinatly true. I stood there and told him all the reasons why he shouldnt have done it. near as dammat told him he was thick and an a&&ehole. But he didnt listen :(
