Hiya just thought i would let you know i took mitzy for an ultra sound scan as it was 25days since she was mated and she is off her food and vomited a couple of times.
The vet could not see anything she said that mitzy is on the boarderline of what they can see with the scan so i have to take her back in 10days do you think that the puppies should have shown up on the scan or do you think she is not pregnant.
her teats are starting to go a darker pink and her mammary glands have swollen a little.
Any advice or help would be greatfully appreciated

Isn't 25 days a bit early for that?  I think you're supposed to wait until 35 days and on from there before an Xray will show pups.

she did not have an x-ray it was an ultra sound scan this does not harm the developing pups and x-ray would at this early a stage i was just wondering with the ultra sound if pups should be seen or is it still to early and thats why the vet has suggested i take her back in 10days

I had 2 females scanned on day 25 from 1st matings, one scanned at 7 puppies the other at 4 but was too early to be accurate, both scans were very clear. 7 days later one scanned at 8 the other 6. I think realiablity depends on who is scanning them and how good the equipment is but yes, they can be detected fairly easily at 25 days.

you may be able to detect pregnancy in some bitches 25 days post mating, but in others you wouldn't.
It would take an experienced person to see foetuses at 25 days post mating.
I scan bitches & find 28-30 days post mating is the best time. :)
I wouldn't want to routinely scan a bitch for pregnancy at 25 days.  :)
I wouldn't be too upset that nothing was found - but hopefully by her next scan you will see some babes.  :)

Hi snoopy the vet that did the scan took ages to find mitzys spleen she said that was because she has a little bit of a chubby belly.
Would her tensing up while they were doing the scan stop them seeing everything as if even i touch her belly she tense's her belly which she does not normally do.
The vet also only just scanned the dogs my original vet i had before he left did palpation of the abdomen aswell as the scan.

I am worried she is having a phantom pregnancy as she has a little swollen vulva her mammary glands have swollen her nipples are going a darker pink and stand up instead of being basically flat like they usually are she is eating smaller meals drinking ok maybe a little more than usual and is acting strange she is a loving an affectionate dog anyways but the past week or so she has become worse she is with me at all times she never leaves my side.

Hi Mike, because most bitches will have a phantom of some degree post season (mated or not) it's difficult to look at both behavioural signs & physical signs of your bitch as they will take place to some degree (some so slight you won't notice) if she's pregnant or not.
The bitch being tense / worried by the scan would not make any difference to what was found.
I guess you'll have to just cross your fingers & wait & see.
If you had good mating/s (& more importantly at the right time) all being well she should be pregnant.  :)

Hi mike

i took my girl to have a scan today and she is on day 32 and it was very easy to see the puppies :D, the lady that does the scans will not see you before day 28 days, she does a lot of scans but has trouble seeing any thing before 28 days, hope that helps

My vet refuses to do a scan until 35 days+.  I took her on day 35 and it was really easy to see them.  Up until then he wouldn't even try feeling for the pups.

Fingers crossed for next time.

My vet scans and 28 days +. A lot depends on the scanner used and the experience of the person doing and reading the scan.

Good luck Mike for Monday.

I hated waiting to find out if my bitch was pregnant I was a bit of a wreck and panicked over everything first litter an' all.  Everyone on this board must have got fed up with me posting silly little questions, well they seem silly now.
