Every breeder that I have been to so far has neglected to ask me questions to see whether my hubbie and I are suited to homing one of their puppies.   If they don't ask you any questions does this mean that they don't really have the pups interest at heart? I guess in a way it is possible to tell whether people who come to look at pups are genuine or not and we have certainly been doing an awful lot of question asking, but not being asked has really concerned me.  Am I being over cautious here?

No Van, it would worry me too. You would think they would at least want to know if you could manage the puppy with your domestic arrangements and if your garden is suitable.

As Jackie says..beware a breeder who doesn't ask questions...if they don't care where they go they haven't cared how they've been raised or bred.
which breed are you looking for...maybe a CD member ca help you find a good breeder.

Hi Van, I wonder, whether because you're very keen, if you might be providing all the information up front. I know whenever I have been looking for puppies, I want the breeder to know how trustworthy I am. So what I tend to do is spill my whole life out and tell every detail of how worthy I am of having one of their babies, and there are'nt many questions left to ask.So maybe you're very open. I have always asked for puppies to show, and the breeder is assured of seeing me quite regularly, and can see for themselves how well the puppy is doing.(Unless I'm lying through my teeth from start to finish) but that's where intuition comes in handy.
If you have done your homework, and these people are clearly not puppy farmers,you are happy with the surroundings that the pups have been brought up in, they have documentary evidence of the health tests neccessary in the breed, the litters are KC registered, and the price is correct for the breed, then I wouldn't worry too much. Hope you get your puppy soon,

That is a very good point Dawn, my breeder didn't ask many questions but thinking about it I probably told her all she needed to know upfront, she also knew I wanted to show and we see each other on a regular basis.

Hadn't thought of it like that before.

Another point of view, I ask general q's on the phone and wait until I meet the people in person to ask more. Also we are pretty good judges of character and you do become expert at 'sussing' people out on the phone, I am always wary of the potential puppy owners who don't ask q's or tell me about themselves and I expect people to ask me q's too. The genuine people always shine through :)
