Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / LAB HIP SCORES
- By Guest [eu] Date 13.02.04 10:10 UTC
WE RECENTLY PURCHASED A LAB PUPPY, I ENQUIRED WITH OUR VET ABOUT HIP SCORES, AND EXPLAINED THAT THE PUPS SIRE HAD A SCORE OF 4/3 AND THE DAM 7/7,THE VET ADMITTED THAT SHE WAS NOT AN EXPERT BUT IMPLIED THAT THE DAM'S SCORE DID NOT SOUND VERY GOOD. I WAS LED TO BELIEVE THAT ANY TOTAL SCORE UNDER 16 WAS OK. CAN ANYONE ADVISE, AND SHOULD I BE WORRIED? THANKS

The vet obviously doesn't know what he's on about 16 is an average hip score so anything under that is good!!7/7 is 14 so that's good so don't worry!!!

You're right guest, any score under the average (16 total for labs) is okay. 7/7 is even, and under the average, and they have mated the bitch to a dog with a better score, so the breeders have done their best. At least your vet admitted to not being expert - they can'e be experts on everything!

Hope this helps.

I do wish that vets would do their homework before spurting such ridiculous information.
