Topic Dog Boards / Health / Sites With info For Allergic/Itchy Dogs

I`ve been asked by a few people what supps I used to help my dogs when they were itching & the vet couldn`t find a cause. First off I`d like to say that I feed my dogs total raw diet so there was no conflict with giving supps that may be dangerous for dogs eating complete food. I aslo gave the anti-histamines with my vets knowledge & he worked out the dosage for me. Secondly I`m not a fan of the allergy testing but I would have used it as a last resort if I hadn`t managed to get my dogs itching under control. Allergies are a sign of the immune system not working properly & there can be a few a reasons why, so it stands to reason the first thing to do is try & get it up & working normally. One of the first things I did for my dogs was change them over from complete to the Pitcairn diet which contains grains & pulses & the itching stopped but it did come back for a couple of them the following summer. His diet also contains a healthy powder which I continue to give them every so often. Remember that allergies can come & go overnight & although a dog can be allergic to a certain ingriedient when it`s given in a processed form, in complete foods it can often not be allergic to the fresh form :) The Pitcairn healthy powder is already on another post so a quick serch should bring it up :) & below I`ve put sites that give info on what/dosage supps to use. I used echinacea, spirulina, salmon oil caps, Vits C/E, garlic, honey, active yoghurt, alfalfa & kelp( only if you know there is no thyroid probs tho). The echinacea give for 6wks then break for a few wks. I did this for a long time but now think my dogs are at a stage were their immune system is working normally & have not been giving the supps for a while. Oh the other thing is I stopped all chemicals going in/on them as they are known to damage the immune system. Hope this helps folks :)
When you go to the site below you need to click on holistic health & then allergy information.

I also used a chemical free shampoo with great success from Stuart who owns the site below. It`s not listed but you can give him a ring :)
