I was just wondering which collar is best for a lab puppy and what size to purchase he will be 8 weeks when i get him

I would go for a soft webbing one.  As to the size, you won't know until you get him.  Carry him into the pet shop then you could try them on him.  I am sure there will be plenty of offers of help from the assistants :)
