Did'nt know how to title this post as something very strange happened this afternoon.
Yesterday the parcel man [white van man] delivered my mum a parcel, he was fussing over the pup, how lovely, shes huge, etc etc.
Anyway he called this afternoon not delivering anything but enquiring where i got her from as hes after another gsd after his bitch was stollen not long since.
he told me he'd brought a male and female from germany and brought them over on pet passports and the family are heartbroken about whats happened.
anyway he asked me where i got her from and if i knew if there were any more, i told him that i dont believe so and he carried on praising my girl.
He then offered to pay £500 for her if id sell as he wants a good sterdy well boned gsd bitch about 18 weeks old, doesnt matter mines only 14 his dog is 18 weeks and he wants to breed and show???They can grow up together?
Now my worry is, am i to much of a sensitive mum and its just general chat or could there be cause for concern it seems very unusual.
hence to say i told him i would'nt sell my baby for all the tea in china not for 1.ooo.
hope you reply soon as i am worried.

I had this not so long ago too :)
But it was our Postie who started making comments - I didnt think anything of it as people are always making comments about him.
Then he offered me money to buy him - I was gobsmacked
Now I make sure Gus doesnt come to the door with me and try to avoid the postie if I can

I would say keep a an eye on her at all times this is how it starts people think they are being nice but really they are seeing if it's worth taking he could have a buyer lined up already sorry if this worries you but we all need to be aware.

You could have explained that she wasn't kc reg and couldn't be shown so she would have been worthless to him, that may have put him off.
If you are worried then contact the post office depot and make a complaint, as i'm sure they wouldn't be happy. :)

oops Porky pies being told
<<<Will I able to enter the UK with my pet as soon as the scheme starts?
Your pet cannot enter the UK until
six months after the date your vet took a blood sample that yielded a successful test result (see section 8). This is because an animal that is infected before being vaccinated would not be protected against rabies but its blood test might give the same result as one for an uninfected animal that had been vaccinated. Six months (equivalent to the length of quarantine) is the time needed for an infected animal to display any clinical signs of rabies which would prevent it being brought into the UK.
If you wish to travel with your pet to a qualifying country during the summer of 2000, you should have your pet microchipped, vaccinated and blood tested as soon as possible.

morning this is sam now, hubby had a change using the pc last night.
On the cctv footage you cant see the reg number clearly, it was a white transit van but cctv has picked up a good picture
of the man, coming down the drive empty handed and leaveing 20 minutes later, he had 2 yorkshire terriers in the front of the van.
The previous day he delivered my mum a package from readers digest.he also said he lived in south kirby?
Simon says i need to ring rdigest, explain everything and then find out the delivery company for starters.
oh and we'll keep the cctv tape just incase.

The carrier will know just what driver was on what route that particular day. Even better if you had to sign for the parcel.

gds sam you are wise to be careful of this man in this day and age you cant be too careful sounds odd to me

Bl****y hell, thats really dodgy, make sure you keep that number in case any thing else happens! you seem quite trusting but i dont think you can be these days ,sadly!
PLEASE do be careful and report this to the Police. There has been a series of thefts regarding GSD's over the last year or so. The common factor was a white transit van. On at least one occasion a breeder was bullied and threatened by 3 men who arrived in a white transit and proceeded to remove puppies and adults from her. There was nothing she could do.
This van has been spotted severalt imes at these thefts, so please report it. It may be nothing to do with the previous thefts but is hughly suspicious. Good luck

The Reality group (formerly white arrow) deliver for readers digest, i imagine the details would be on the side of the van?
In any case here is the email for the company: david.chubb@realitygroup.com

hi mygirl and anyone else, right ive just been able to take a break and come upstairs to the pc.
i have looked at the tape and fiddled about and you cant see the reg number all you can see is the white van, plain no writting on it and the man very clear, he was here for just under 20 minutes without anything in his hands not delivering, and a good clear discription. The cctv tape clearly shows the date and time, ive kept this now to 1 side.
Right i have since spoken to customer services about this and i have been told very stroppily so what do you expect us to do? neadless to say i thought well '''''you!
The previous day when mums readers digest stuff came she did sign forthe package from him.
What now, do i be vidual and ignore it or should i feel like a plonker and call the police station and explain my fear?dont matter to me whether my gsd is kc reg or not i still dont want her stollen, chipped or insured it wouldnt matter if she is nicked my heart and my family would break.
i explained everything to simon last night and he has said this is very strange and hes not inpressed at the driver coming back to our home without his job behind him ie no delivery to here he had no right coming back.
god this is awful, im sick to death of getting myself put right and then feeling like crap again.

im calling police now so will update soon.
I would call the police , if a dog is stolen in your area then the police can always come to you to look at the tape at a possible suspect. He could of course be a perfectly innocent driver who told porkies, on the other hand he could be a potential dog thief - so yes I would at least inform the police of a suspicious incident. :)

I'll email Reality Group for you if you like just give me the date/time and area (no addresses) and they should be able to find who it was.
Alot of drivers for companies are allowed to take their vans home so if this driver is using his for illegal purposes then i'm sure they would like to know.

the parcell came on tuesday cant recall what time but mum signed for it and it was from readers digest.
wednesday the man came about 4.30pm would have to look at tape again for exact time.
we have cctv tape from tuesday but at moment cant be bothered to look through it for exact delivery time.

If you're going to phone the police it's best to have precise information (Sometime Tuesday afternoon won't do).
I don't think they will do anything and like i said your best bet is the delivery company.
By gsd sam
Date 12.02.04 14:03 UTC
the parcel was signed for at a time next to the signiture so if the police take things up or the delivery firm then they could surely know the time from the drivers sheet?
i cant get through to the police yet but am going to keep trying just to notify them of my worries.
mygirl have you a contact number at all? for the firm

i have forwarded on my worries and concerns to our local police station, no dogs in are area have been reported stolen but they will keep a vigil after my story, i need to keep my cctv tapes just incase anything does happen or the police recieve any similar reports.
thanks everyone.
The Police often don't/won't treat dog theft as a crime and decline to acknowledge it exists which is why even if 50 dogs in an area have gone missing they don't acknowlege a problem UNLESS the owners get a crime number then it has to be logged.
