Can any one give me some advice as I don't know if this is too long for my 6 month lad puppy Alfie to be left alone. I leave for work at 8.30am, my granda comes and walks him at 10.30am. I am home for lunch for 1 hour at noon, I feed and walk him. then at 3.00pm my granda is back to walk him then my boyfriend and I are home at 5pm. I feel really bad for leaving him as this is the 1st time since we have had him he has been alone during the day as my boyfriend used to do nightshift so there was always someone there. he seems to being doing ok apart from the odd chewing here and there.
Thanks
Ami x

Hi Ami,
Although the total hours your pup is alone is high, it is nicely broken up into small chunks. This shouldn't be a problem at all, so I would stop worrying and enjoy your life with him! Good luck!

thanks for your reply, i just feel bad about him being alone and wanted some reassurance. Was thinking about getting him some company during the day but doubt it would be as easy to get 2 pups walked while i was at work. Also, alfie is quite spoiled and don't know how he would take to it even though he loves other dogs?

I wouldn't consider another pup yet! Who knows what bad habits they will teach each other?

I think that is fine , my 5 month old chihuahua has always been on his own from 10 weeks twice a week from 7 am until 3 pm and he has turned into an absolutely wonderful dog

Hi Ami - I would be inclined to leave things as they are at present - you have you pup's day broken up into nice "chunks" - and believe me, from experience, two puppies are at least THREE times the work of one puppy!!!
If you were to get a second puppy, you would find it hard not to have them "bonding" onto each other, rather than onto you and your partner and that makes training all the more difficult. Enjoy him, and let him enjoy you both, on his own, for the time being.
