Yes.

Anyone who owns a bitch which has puppies is classified as a breeder. This is why we recommend you do as much research on your chosen breed as possible before you buy a pup. Contact the secretary of the relevant Breed Club and ask about responsible breeders. Visit as many people with the breed as you can. Be aware that reputable breeders will have as many questions to ask about you and your lifestyle as you have to ask them. Don't necessarily buy a pup from the first litter you visit - be choosy! Be prepared to go on a waiting list for maybe many months.

Good luck!

I would look for the following-
1. breed club member
2. only ever breeds KC registered stock (not DLC REG)
3. specialises in one or two breeds
4. has a good knowledge of pedigrees, health screening confirmations defects ect..
5. wants to know your inside leg measurments plus what you had for tea last night before considering selling you a puppy!!
6. doesnt make false promises! ie this is going to be the next crufts winner!
7. takes a interest in their own dogs and the puppies they have bred .
:) I hope this helps and a reputable breeder wont mind being questioned as they will have nothing to hide!

good advice dont be drawn in, its difficult when your inexperienced (as i am). Ive been fooled a few times now :)

example- this dog has won blah de blah etc at so and so show
reality- no good as a show dog at all many faults no record of winning

example 2- both parents were hipscored and scored low
realitly- dog scored hipscore total 37 !!!! :( (and later found out one parent was not scored and the other scored 24)

that was just one dog!!!

I find if you are open and honest about what you are looking for it helps, aswell as following all the usual recomendations. Unfortunatly there are people out there who just want rid of the dog regardless of what the person is looking for and if the dog suits them.

I know of a breeder who told prospective buyers that the HIGHER the hip score the BETTER...not suprising as the bitch scored 54!!!
Also told people that the bitch was a top show winner...she was white (GSD)

Nice to see questions a head of time.

I would suggest getting in contact with the breed club.  Make sure that they have heard of any breeder. ( I personally would expect the person to be a member of the club)

Meet others members and ask if any of them would help you find a puppy. ( A lot will gladly help to save another puppy farmer/backdoor breeder victim )

Good luck.

PS it will be with you a long time so a little wait for the right dog/ breeder is nothing.

Ask if there is a sales contract (there should be) and if you can have a copy to take home and read - if you are given a contract to sign when you collect your puppy, chances are you will not read it properly as you will be too distracted by the puppies.

leah

Also take into consideration,

Ask to see parents hip scores/eye test (a good breeder will have no probs in showing you these) the mean score for siberian husky is 7 that is 7 all together and not 7 on each hip so you want the mom and dad to have low scores like this.

Ask if parents have been shown/worked to prove they are good speciems of the breed

dont be fooled by ...... to busy to show/work yey never to busy to breed

Ask to see parents pedigrees, like I say good breeders have no probs with showing you this.

Have tried to email you but your email is hidden, if you want to email me on

valeskiasiberians@huskyworld.freeserve.co.uk I can give you more advice on thing I can not say on here
