Our 9 month old labrador is lovely but disgusting and will eat anything including other dogs poo. Every now and then he will start throwing up every night, not much just a few puddles, but is otherwise fine. Previously I have given him Drontal thinking it might be a worm thing and it has cleared up overnight. Now he's doing it again but I only wormed him a month ago, is it safe to give him Drontal again so soon? Or is there another worm treatment that would suit a dog with such gross habits better?!
PS I know the long term answer is to stop the poo eating - we're working on that one.

There really is no need to worry - Drontal given every three months will kill off any reinfection before they do any internal damage.

Actually I'm thinking more of myself as i can't bear clearing up piles of vomit first thing every morning! Do you think it would harm him if he has the Drontal more often than every three months, I'm tempted to give him some now to stop the vomiting but don't want to overdose him (!) or reduce his own immunity to infections etc as he was only wormed at the beginning of January. thanks

I would doubt very much in a scavenging dog that it is a worm infestation which is making him vomit - more like what he has eaten. I wouldn't put any more chemicals into my dogs than was necessary and six months is the minimum recommendation for Drontal so every three months is sufficient. Don't know what it would take to OD on them but perhaps you could speak to your vet about the vomiting and ask advice on alternative worm treatments. Don't blame you for not wanting to be clearing vomit up first thing in the morning :(

I worm my dogs every month as they have the vile habit of eating duck poo and sometimes cat poop if they can find it

it wont do them any harm as it kills the worms that are present and then disapears out of the body, for example if your dog picked up worms on a monday then you wormed him on the thursday it would get rid of those worms but if he picked up another lot of worms on friday the tablet you gave him previously would have no effect as it has already left the system so you would have to wait for the next months worming.I hope this all makes sense,i'm no good at trying to explain things in writing

Thanks for your comments. No sick this morning thank goodness so hoping whatever it was has gone through. I think this is going to be a recurring problem so yes, will discuss it with the vet next time we go. I'll keep the duck poo quiet, don't want to give him any ideas for new snacks! thanks x
Is it vomit or just bile - if bile it sometimes helps to give a few biscuits or something last thing at night. I dont know why this seems to work but it does with mine. Also if they have been at fresh grass during the day, especially in the spring, I come down to little puddles of bile.
