Looking for any advice as to how to wean our pup off his crate. We are leaving the door open now all the time, day and night, and we need to know how to get rid of the crate altogether. Any advice please.............

Just take it away! Leave his bedding & toys in the space where the crate was - I've never had any problems - and then, if needs be (the need for crate rest after an operation or something like that) - the crate can go back!
Margot

why take it away.mine love they crate, its they bed and safe hole when they want to get away from the other dogs,or kids.
brie loves her bed crate,at 10 pm if the door not open she will cry to go to bed.

We want to take the crate away eventually because we simply don't have any space to keep it permenantly (it's a huge crate for a lab!)! We don't live in a flat with a dog or anything, just a small farmhouse, so space is a premium! We don't have kids that Milo needs to escape from, so he gets plenty of quiet time without the need to hide himself away.
Thanks for the advice anyway. looks like its all or nothing !

You could put a large cardboard box in there and gradually cut down the sides and then remove cage so that the box or box bottom is left.
