Hi,
Are you allowed to enter a dog in a show that is being judged by the breeder's spouse? I wouldn't think so, but does anyone know? I'm not planning on doing this by the way, it is just a question that came up over the weekend

Thanks

Don't quote me but if the spouses name is not down as a joint breeder then I think the answer is yes. However it would not be a good idea they may have had a fight on the morning of the show.  If fact I would have thought if both partners were into dogs and both judged the same breed the spouse would also be a co-breeder but I do know of couples who have different breeds and do not appear on the dogs registration as co-breeders.

Having said that I will now have to go and check the rule book.

Thanks for your reply Jackie, both spouses breed the same breed, and use the same affix
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 02.02.04 13:29 UTC
In which case it may not be against the rules but it is IMO unethical to show under the spouse.

I agree Jackie.   We had a similar situation where I use the same affix but separate interest as my parents so technically a puppy bred by me could be shown under my parents.

However, although within the rules we would consider it extremely poor etiquette for anyone to do this.

I've seen it happen, although the husband & wife were separated at the time, she won a class too...

The spouse wasn't the person showing the dog but the dog's eventual owner. Breeder was listed with same surname as the judge, when this was queried, it was said that the judges's spouse had bred the dog and so it was eligble to enter. Some exhibitors were not happy and I just wondered what the rule was.
Thanks

You may well find that this will be investigated by the KC IF they share an affix and it is on the dogs registration then it is ineligble for exhibiton under that judge, if the judges spouse was the breeder or stud owner and the judge has no interest in the Affix then there is no ruling against that dog being exhibited under that particular judge.

It`s so easy to give a judge a bad name if all the facts are not published. The exhibitor of this dog entered it but did not arrive at the show. He was just supporting the club as he has done for some time.

Dave,
Nobody was trying to give the judge a bad name. I was simply asking for clarification. To be honest I thought the judge did very well, and was really good with the puppies.
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 04.02.04 07:27 UTC
Dave is correct we all read that as if the judging had taken place, to enter to suport a club is a very different thing. And yes I would do the same.

Whilst not wanting to be contradictory I just wanted to say that there were in fact 4 dogs listed in the catalogue as bred with this name, one of which had the spouse's initial, the other 3 dogs did not turn up but the latter did and was judged.
I would also like to say that I was never suggesting that the judge or spouse entered the dog, even knew the dog or knew that it had been entered. My initial query was regarding a dog entered by an owner.  If my question was not clear and open to mis-interpretation I apologise wholeheartedly.

Jancx, it's ok, you said entered, not judged by, and we all answered as if you had said the dog was present. As it happens you now say the dog was present so the answers were applicable. It is just that a lot of people give a judge a 'complementary' entry, having no intention of actually being there.

Hi
We had a judge in our breed give a CC to a dog bred by her husband.
- By auntynubokoto [gb] Date 10.02.04 15:33 UTC
Well, I've seen Terry Thorn judging and Zena showing her Dachies at the same show - Terry was judging another breed though.

Personally I would have thought that perfectly acceptable as he was judging a different breed.

To reiterate, my question asked if the dog's OWNER could show the dog, & was not querying the judge or spouse.

Actually - >gg< he doesn't want her to show these days as she judges so much but she doesn't take any notice of him - well he is her HUSBAND and what wife does take notice >veg< .

"Are you allowed to enter a dog in a show that is being judged by the breeder's spouse" - this was your question - did you mean "enter in a breed  class etc etc......."?
- By Abbeypap [gb] Date 11.02.04 09:46 UTC
Hello
If they are not the registered breeder you can enter under the breeders spouse,
so long as they have not handled the dog in the 12 months prior to the show.
