Hi, Tally is now nearly 7 months old and still cant go through the night without weeing so we have made the decision to start getting up in the night and take her for wees.  we have trained her onto paper and now she sees no problem with using it..so we are planning on taking up the paper and taking her out through the night..anyone got any advice how this will be most successful..I am assuming that she should be capeable of holding it from 10pm til 6:30am...?? when we are in she sits by the door to be let out for wees but at night when there is paper down she uses it, we have taken up the paper but she wees where it is usually put....any help would be great...
Thanks Kellie

see if you can feed her earlier & restrict her water at night.

water should never be withheld from dogs

I would try letting her out later

Hi
We had the same problem with our 8 month BC'S, they would keep weeing through the night and sometimes poo, (nice!!).  We did the same thing and took the paper up, she will get used to it. Someone did suggest that you scrub the area with white spirit so it gets rid of the smell.

Restricting water before bedtime is ok, I leave just a tiny bit down for my 2 and it has helped.

On veterinary advice you should never restrict your dogs access to water unless it is due to have an operation(been speaking to a vet tonite about something else non veterinary)

It is not the way to stop your dog needing to wee during the night

I bet you anything that getting up during the night will help solve your problem. I have a young puppy and though he isn't expected to hold it until morning, I was tired of cleaning everything up every morning. So I decided to set my alarm for 3:00 AM and let him out and then back to bed. Within one week my now 17 week old puppy is dry and clean all night. I just kept to that time and Houdini got the hang of it. I don't think restricting the water is a problem. Houdini doesn't have any in his crate and does just fine. In the mornings, rather than racing to the water bowel, he calmly trots to it, takes a few licks and asks to go outside to potty. He is fine without the water during the night. If your dog is otherwise healthy and has no need for water, I think you'll be fine to restrict it if you wish. Of course, if the dog is sick, it needs to have water all the time. That is just my honest opinion and look on things. Good luck with getting your pup trained. =)

we are going to try and find out when in the night she is weeing and pooing, we put her to bed at 10ish last night then got up at 2:30, when she had weed and pooed then got up again at 6:30..again she had weed and pooed, she does drink a lot but I really dont want to restrict her water, will clean the floor with white spirit and try again tonight...she now just thinks it is fine to wee in the kitchen..it would be nice to not have to clean up every morning! Thanks for all the suggestions!

Hello again
I know that some people don't agree with restricting water before bedtime but I have read in books that you should take it away say an hour before they are due to go to sleep. What time do you go to bed??, I normally let mine out for their last wee at around 11/11.30, they are normally asleep by then but I make them go and they have been fine with this and not weed at all.

Why don't you just try taking the water away for 1 night?? it may work??

Just my opinion, I expect someone will have a go!! ha-ha
