Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Dobe Show Collar Help (Deva)
- By annieee [gb] Date 07.02.04 11:10 UTC
Hi
Can anyone help please? I've looked on the Deva website to order a chain show collar for my Dobe. I understand that need a long thin chain collar and a long thin leather lead. I've got the lead but I don't understand the order form on Deva website. It quotes 1 link, 2 link etc and gives the length. Does the 1 link, 2 link etc refer to the weigtht of the chain? So does the 1 link mean it is a thin chain???
Thanks
:) annieee :)

Hi Annie, are you the lady with the puppy called Lola?

Hi
Yes I am, her first show is at the end of February and I haven't got the correct collar yet. I have been to several shows recently, including a champ show but there hasn't been a trade stand. I've emailed Deva but they haven't got back to me yet :(

Just out of interest, why does it have to be a long chain and a long leather lead.  Unless you are comfortable with this then don't get it.  Just MPO if your happy with long chains and leads then thats fine, im not having a dig or being nasty :)

Hi
No dig taken :)
I was advised by Dobe people and by looking at what the smart Dobes are wearing around the shows. The long chain is cos when free standing, the collar should be down on the shoulders so it has to be long enough to slide down. The lead doesn't have to be long - just thin. I actually prefer a shortish lead as I don't know what to do with it when I'm 'stacking' (note the correct terminology :D )

ok another bit of advice, always do what feels best for youand your dog and make your own desisions (with help from experianced people!)

:D  Its true but many people will tell you different things so take what they say and make your own mind up!

Hi Annieee

Who is showing her, you or Paula - if it is Paula ask if you can borrow one from her for the day although it is useful to get your dog used to a show collar before a show.

You can also use a narrowish black collar that lays behind the ears - many dog owners use these as they give more control than the thin chains.  I had a leather one made for my male with an integral lead (in fact I bought it as separate pieces and the maker was there and adapted it for me)  Some have plaited leather or nylon collars as well.

Hi Christine,

paula is showing her at Romford but I've entered her into a small show in Birmingham at the end of Feb so this will be her first one. Deva have chains but I don't understand the 'links' bit!!! :(
