Hi,

Can anyone tell me if posh puppies is a puppy farm, have a friend that is going there tomorrow to look at a male staffy, they advertise in the standard alot, have many dogs for sale, if they are i'll try and persuade my friend not to get his staffy from there, by the way they are selling staffy male for £300.00

thanks for any advice

Steph.

It doesn't sound promising. Anywhere that regularly has puppies of many different breeds is likely to be dodgy. Remember - always see puppies with their mother. If she isn't there, walk away.

I think they have a website, if you look at it they do have a number of popular breeds for sale, so i'd be wary.

I am in Lincolnshire and I wouldn't purchase from anywhere that stocks that many breeds :)

i've told my friend about my concerns over this place but he wont listen, he says that the dog will be fine :( , i have told him that as soon as he gets this dog to make an appointment at the vets and get him fully checked out.

what part of lincolnshire do you live in ? i live at sunny skegness

Any premises that advertises various breeds of puppies and has a pet shop licence will be 'buying in' puppies to resell.
The only people that will willingly supply these places are puppy farms and commercial breeders that have puppies, surplus to reqiurements. Most will use DLRC to register the puppies but some will also use the KC or IKC (if puppies purchased in Ireland) some will sell to dealers with a pedigree only. As NO REPUTABLE breeder would consider selling to a dealer or pet shop licence holder then this should speak for itself.

There are two outlets that are of particular concern in Lincs both 'buy in' and have web sites. My advice would be, not to purchase a puppy from any premises that 'buy in' puppies - if you cannot see the puppy with its Mum and will not at these outlets then walk away - do not be fobbed off!!!!  Every puppy purchased from these outfits means another will be bought in to take its place and the suffering of the breeding bitches continue. Stop this trade now by not giving your money to line the pockets of these people. To buy a puppy will not be saving it will be subjecting more breeding bitches and puppies to the same fate.

Trouble is once you're there....:(
and the pup looks so cute....:(
and sooo helpless......:(
and they have a really good patter..:(
and they sound soo sincere...:(
Its then very difficult to walk away - especially if you have no idea of what these people put the bitches and pups through...:(

and thats what they're relying on

If it were my friend I would take them to a local open dog show that has classes for the breed they want and get them talking to the competitors (I've actually done this - with great success :D) or get hold of the breed society and get a list of reliable breeders and give friend the list and a list of questions to ask breeders.

Not saying this is what you should do - just what I have done

Regards
Dill

Steph.......,

You are not half Maccum.
AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I live in Bishop. It's CO Durham not Sunderland.
Two of my kids were born in Sunderland. They wouldn't advertise the fact. Ha! Ha!
I think your half Geordie. Not sure.

Just joking don't all you Maccums have goes.

D4wn

P.S I'm a Yorkshireman/woman through and through.

hmmmm... guess where I was born Dawn........

Geoff :)

Uuhhm!!!! Wouldn't be Sunderland would it?????
I've always thought it such a wonderful place you know.
All that fresh air. And uhhm!. And uhhmm!!
And uhhmm! Come on remind me.
I know there must be something good about Sunderlsnd.OH! that's not it ' The Black Cats'.
No sorry really I was only having a laugh.
After all two of my kids decided to be born in Sunderland.(not my choice you understand).
No really I lived in Ryhope for 3 yrs and had a terrible time so I think that has coloured my judgement a little.
You know that ickle tubby person who's going to the ferret shows?? Well she's going to hide so you don't give her a slap for being a cheeky t**t.
- By G30ff [gb] Date 09.02.04 13:38 UTC
Perfectly understandable, I mean anyone who managed to live in Ryhope, for 3 years well, you have my full sympathy, how on earth did you manage to get to Stanhope after Ryhope, Stanhope is a lovely place to live.....

Geoff :)

p.s. will be judging ferrets this year, be careful....
- By D4wn [gb] Date 09.02.04 14:19 UTC
Geoff,

It was 16yrs ago I lived there, it was terrible, we lived on 'Bomb Alley'. Do you know where that is?
Agian not my choice to live there I was still with my husband at the time and frankly I had no choice in the matter. Nor in anything else, that's another story, he was a right royal beer pump attendant.

I had to move about a bit when I got rid of him for safety reasons.
Eventually I ended up in Consett, where I met my beloved, from there we came to Stanhope.

Now the kids have grown up a bit my ex isn't as much a danger to them.

I hope we never need to move again.

If your going to be judging at some of the shows what will it cost to bribe you???

Just a nice smile will do it...

Hi I live in Lincs and do rescue and training.  Whilst they do not appear to be farming on site, you have to wonder where they get a constant supply of puppies of specific breeds.  There never seems to be a time when any of the breeds are not available.  There are actually 3 of these outlets in Lincs and I see several of the dogs through rescue.  I have spoken to quite a few people who have visited and even bought from these places.  One asked the kennels where they got the litters from as there are usually no parents to be seen.  The owner told her that these people are all "friends" of hers and trust her to sell their puppies!  Needless to say when asked to supply the phone number of these friends they wouldn't.  I would suggest that nobody buys from multiple breed outlets and especially those advertising constant supplies of several breeds and no parents.  I have seen quite a few of the dogs bought from these places and some have serious problems.
- By pat [gb] Date 07.02.04 20:40 UTC
As there are hundreds of puppy farms and commercial breeders in Wales and Ireland consitantly breeding from their bitches
to produce thousands of litters of puppies a year there is no shortage of supply. This will continue until everyone places pressure on their MPs to prohibit the sale of puppies from third parties (pet shop licence holders premises) whether it is a typical pet shop or boarding/breeding kennels that buy in extra puppies to sell or individuals in their own homes that have been granted by some Councils pet shop licences to allow them to buy in puppies. Take this facilty away and the puppy farmers/commercial breeders will not have the outlets to sell their puppies to.

Hi they advertise in the  nottingham free ads most pups are DLC reg not KC they can get you any type of puppy you want for a price!!! Now to me thats sounds very suspicious! give them a call yourself and see!! :(
- By stephanieohara [gb] Date 09.02.04 11:52 UTC
thanks everyone for all your advice, my friend didnt go to posh puppies in the end (thank god) i took him to a breeder in boston, all dogs kc reg etc etc, very nice pups, he's getting a dog in 4 weeks, they will be 8 weeks old, i did say to him that i thought that was a bit young, but the breeders letting them go then, he's gonna take him to the vets to have a check up, hopefully everthing is going to be ok :) , he's going to call him harvey after that bloke out of east17

Don't know if this thread is still open, but Posh Puppies (puppy farm and dealer) was closed down quite a while ago.
I've visited and was shown the premises:-)
