Topic Dog Boards / General / cheap agility equipment?
- By lucyandmeg [gb] Date 07.02.04 20:37 UTC
Does any one know where i can buy some cheap agility equipment, that is of a fairly decent (and safe) standard? Alternatively does anyone have any idea how to create my own? (easy ideas i was rubbish at design technology and woodwork!) Primarily i am looking for a set of three jumps, (border collie size) to practise in my garden. I am on a tight budget, so any ideas welcome!

We use traffic cones with holes made in them and pegs pushed into the holes and then lightweight canes resting on the pegs :) Dog walking friend works for the water board and gave us the cones - they are extra tall ones :)

I use plant pots and put Halloween brooms on top :D (Probably better off with a bamboo stick!) And a hola-hoop for him too jump through.

Hi,

A basic jump wing is actually quite easy to make - if you look at ones at shows or at your club you should be able to see how they are made and then "bang a few pieces of wood together" - a friend has recently made 12 jumps - although they wouldn't be competition standard they are a hell of a lot more wind resistant! Won't blow down in anything!

We made (or I should say my husband made) some really good jumps out of plastic plumbing pipe.  You can buy the push on joints so you can easily dismantle them.  They are light if the dogs knock themselves.  He made them about 4 years ago and they are still going strong.  I buy the 'kids' plastic tunnels from woolworths or toy shops.  They last a couple of years if you put some old matting on the base of them.  They cost about £25-30 but the dogs get such a lot of fun from them.  You could also buy a couple of hay bales which make excellent jumps.  Three broomstick handles or dowling cut in half makes good weaving poles.  Have fun.
