what is the largest amount of pixels a digital camera can have?
We're very pleased with the digital camera we have just bought - a Kodak DX 6440. It was recommended by a friend and i used it before we got out own :)
It was under £300 and we are thrilled with the picture quality, ease of use, etc. It's got 4 megapixels (think that's right, i'm just starting to understand this!)
My other half is quite fussy where cameras are concerned, so if he likes it, it must be good ;) :)

Mines got 4 as well although that means absolutely nothing to me
As long as I can press the button and get a picture ;)

I bought a Canon Ixus 400 through recommendation from a work colleague (and since I bought mine another 4 colleagues have bought one too!). I got a good deal from Cameras2U (£299 as opposed to £450).

I have bought a Nikon Coolpix 3700. Its sooooooooooo easy to use. It does voice recording and movies too. Has 3.2 mega pixels, very small and neat. Paid £249.99, originally £349.99 from PC world.
Dawn.
Ooohh Teabags, thats the one I have been after for months - have to wait for the price to drop a bit more. Or fly to USA where they are 100 pounds cheaper!!!

You're right Sam, Pixels aren't everything, I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-P10 5.0 megapixels and a Fuji F601zoom 3.1 megapixels! Give me the Fuji camera any day, much clearer pictures and easier to use, lovely camera!

Have to agree Pixels are not everything. A digital camera is still a camera and the most important thing on a camera is the lens. The bigger the lens the better (by which I mean the diameter not the amount it can zoom). Look at the f number - the best quality lenses have low f numbers. Its no use having quintillions of pixels if no light gets through the lens. The lower the f number the more light gets through.
Having got a good quality lens look at the features and ease of use. Is is compatible with your computer?. Has it got a memory card that you can take to the high street shops to get good quality prints.
The best advice is don't buy blind. Go to a camera shop and ask for a demo (even if you eventually decide to buy off the net)
If you don't need one until your next summer hols then don't buy now. They will be much cheaper and higher spec in 6 months time.
If your after good quality prints that you can also have enlarged and still have reasonable quality look for something with about 3 mega pixels or above and a good OPTICAL zoom 3X or above, ignore the digital zoom figures their almost meaningless. There's some good deals on the Olympus C350 RRP £250 but lots of places are selling it for less than £150 with free case mains adaptor batteries and charger.

Does anyone have or know anything about the Sony DSC-F717 ?

I have a pentax optio (3.2 megapixels) which is great. the only problem I have with taking pictures of my pup is that it flashes more than once and she takes off after the first flash so I tend to end up with pictures of nothing or just a paw or bit of tail left in the picture. Apart from that I'm well impressed with digital cameras.

You need to switch off the "Red Eye" tool Cheekychow, the first flash is designed to close the pupil of the subjects eye, so reducing the amount of light that reflects on the pupil when the second flash goes off, so in theory you don't get redeye on your pics.

Bought my son one of those little cameras for fun,it takes pretty good small pics but not so good for general use,but he's a gadget type person so I knew he would like it :)
I use an optio 550 Pentax,5.0megapixel, 4x normal zoom (5x optical zoom)takes short movies, records sound, has quite a few features I have yet to master. Also have kodak DC215 model,(don't think you can get them now). That too gives good pic quality,so I would consider a later Kodak too.
Having a good camera though hasn't necessarily made me a good photographer :(

I have a Sony DSC-P10 5 megapixel (used twice and put back in box in disgust) and a Fuji F601zoom 3.1 megapixel.........Fuji is better by a long shot, hubby has just bought me a Sharp GX20 camera phone, takes great pictures too!

Thanks for the advice Robert, I'm not very technical minded so hopefully this will mean I get pictures of what I thought I was taking instead of just the background. I think was too impatient to read the manual.
