I have been interested in the thread on seat belts for dogs. We have just decided to definately go ahead and get a new puppy (Yippee! Knew taking him to Crufts would convince him!!) and that gives us a car problem. We got rid of the hatchback when Zico died and have two saloons now. I had thought of swapping one for an estate but that seems a little drastic if seat belts are so good. Two things, Are they suitable for dogs a large as a Weimaraner? and also, Can anyone tell me where to get hold of a back seat cover for saloon cars which will actually stay in place and protect the seats from claws, dirt etc? Do they have ones which are designed for different makes of car?
Sorry that's three questions!
Thanks :)

I have a hatch back, so have no room for any crate of cage, etc. Started using seat belt for dog, but she didn't want to pull at it, and ended up sitting all the time! Also because she is SBT they are a slightly strange shape and couldn't find one to fit her properly. Don't see why wouldn't work for a weim as long as you can find one that fits, take the dog to the pet shop and have a "fitting". One make has a clip on attachment so it can be used as a harness as well, this also means that you don't have to thread it though the seatbelt, just clip it over. I have resorted to seat covers and just got mine from halfords, they are specially shaped for your make of car, and attach round the back and bottom of the seats and i have never had a problem with them slipping off, just a bit of a sod to take off, got the knack evebtually though!!!
Hope this makes sense, though its a bit rambly!

Cleopatra,
:) I know car seat covers aren't very interesting, so thanks for taking the time to reply! Our old dog used to be in the boot of the hatch, rather like yours, which was fine but now we don't have a hatch its either the back seat or sell one of the cars! Like I said, a bit drastic!
I'll pop into the local pet superstore and have a look at the seat belts and also Halfords for the covers.
Thanks again!

No problem, i am spending most of my day on the computer anyway, waiting for her to start having her babies, though she is being a little uncooperative at the mo, showing half signs, and then being fine and dandy again! .
i'd like to say that my bitch went in the boot, but not a chance, i'd never hear the end of it. Sh eis however relagated to the back seat, hence the nessecity for the seat covers, filthy footed animal that she is!
Good luck withthe fitting, hope it all goes well!!!!

The best car seat covers I have come across are
'Over the Top'. Not cheap but almost indestructable and will last for ever. Well worth the money.

Joan,
I've had a look at the site, looks good! One of our cars has leather and I thought this would be a real problem but this company seem to cater for that.
Thansk for the tip!

LOL!! My husband has found this is the best way too cos Barney is car sick and he isnt sick on the seat cover he hangs his head over the seat and throws up on the floor. He is getting better though as he gets older and lots of short journeys are helping (I HOPE)!!! Regards Gina
